No Restrictions | SHADY SHADOW My name is Little Lulu. I'm told I am cute for two. This morn I woke up early and found it stuck to me. I stomped, kicked it in the head; two of us fell out of bed. As I slammed my bedroom door it did sneak along the floor. I told it to go away. I ran outside fast to play. It followed me in a chase; 'Cause of it I hurt my face. Down the slide I sat on you, but still you stayed stuck like glue. I buried you in lots of sand. You popped out when I did stand. I hid behind a big tree sure you couldn't see l'il me. When I peeked, it stood waiting; quiet, black, unhesitating. I dragged it in a puddle, rolled, squished it in a muddle. Stubborn, it clung to my shoe. What else could I at two, do? I ran crying to my Mom. It made fun sucking its thumb. I pointed out the dark blob in between my heaving sobs. Mom hugged me so very tight, promised me I'd be all right. Then she showed me something neat, a big blob stuck to her feet. "It's called a shadow," Mom said. "We all have one with a head, and arms and legs; see mine wave? A shadow helps you be brave." "It goes with you everywhere. You're never alone, here or there. Your shadow friend stays nearby. It's part of you, don't be shy." ( 40 lines ) |
