A religious/inspirational poem about getting back to the basics of who we are as beings. |
-The Closer We Get- by Keaton Foster The closer we get The lesser we fret The further we seem The more we scream Our voices are loud Our concerns ring out God above should know And if he don’t It’s not because he’s deaf We need to be redeemed We need to find relief All that presently are Is just too damn much Back to basics is a good idea We just have to convince Those who need convincing We have to let them see That the present direction Leads nowhere we want to be We have to show them that Eden Is not ahead of us But in fact far behind us In the past of who we were And nowhere in this future Of what we’ve become The closer we get The more we forget The harder it all will get We must go back home Back to what we knew Restoring our kind souls Replacing our fractured bones Allowing us to again grow Not as individuals But as collective beings With a greater intent We must be here for each other And I fear the only way to get there Is to leave what we’ve become And go back to what we once were The closer we get The lesser we’ll come to regret The more will have a chance For ourselves and all else We will be restored Our faith emboldened by truth Our hearts will sing out Our minds no longer be in doubt We will again come to believe In all that once made us The most human of beings The closer we get Back to where we belong Away from what has happened The better chance we will have At surviving all that has been done… The Closer We Get Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2015. |
