Old man winter fades

The sun has returned
she really is alive
Dreary days left behind
mother nature begins to thrive

Old man winter looks on
intent on trying to compete
His grip has been so strong
but can he stand up to her heat?

The battle has begun
the Ides of March have arrived
It's sure to be a struggle
as these ancient forces collide

He pushes the temperature lower
then sends flurries of snow
But through the clouds she appears
saying that was your last show

A sound erupts proving her point
the birds are back, so joyfully they sing
I believe they've declared a winner
and it seems to be Spring
