The dawn’s first rays across my closed eyes dance,
insistent that a new day has begun,
releasing me from night’s indentured trance.
What’s past is past and cannot be undone.
I take a moment, pausing to review
the path I’ve taken bringing me to now.
I wonder, if I could just start anew,
would I be here and would the fates allow?
Are we predestined ever to repeat;
to stumble blindly through each waking day?
Do I control the path beneath my feet
or am I guided? I can’t really say.
With each new day I find I have, perchance,
a choice: to try again; a second chance.
