You are going to die, but here you can choose to have the best day of your life. |
The Last Night Club By Sebastian Di Mattia Peter Galiano has always been a lucky person. He won twenty million dollars from the Florida Lottery and with the aid of some wise investments and his will to achieve; he has amassed a fortune worth over seven hundred and fifty million dollars. Life has been good to him and to everyone around him, but life has a way of throwing curve balls at you and Peter Galiano is no exception. You see, he has just been diagnosed with a terminal disease; an inoperable brain tumor which will continue to grow and eventually kill him. His immense fortune cannot save him, but only put off the inevitable. At some point perhaps a cure can be found, if not, he will gradually lose his quality of life and descend into a slow, agonizing, painful end, but Peter is a fighter, and so he enlists the aid of the top man in “End of Life” alternatives; Doctor Majestic. They begin a quest to develop a way to give a person, faced with their own mortality, a better way out. Doctor Majestic has been working on this problem for years and now that he has an unlimited source of funding, his theories of nanite and stem cell technology have been brought to fruition. “I have good news, Mister Galiano. It is done.” He holds the intravenous bottle containing the golden liquid up to the sunlight which streams into his laboratory. He shakes the bottle causing the contents to come alive with exposing tiny sparkles, like metal flakes afloat in a sea of gold. “You’ve made my work come to life and now you can begin your journey.” “Thank you, Doctor. Now the real work begins. Have you a list for me?” “Yes, as a matter of fact it’s sitting on my desk for your approval.” “How many names are there?” “Three so far, but I expect to have more very soon.” “Excellent, I’ll be right over.” “Very good, Mister Galiano.” Peter Galiano must now implement his plan to liquidate all of his assets except for his house and his car. He will need his money to fulfill dreams, dreams of the living dead, those who share a fate such as himself. He now has to power to grant wishes. It is to those, he will grant one last night to be in perfect health and to do something they have always wanted to do. To live life at its most perfect moment, to live out a fantasy or return to place and change one’s past. He will offer them a chance to wipe away regret or to live one day fearlessly. The variations are limitless, but there is one catch. At the end of twenty-four hours that person will die a most peaceful and comfortable death. They will die while they are still beautiful rather than deteriorate slowly and suffer the pain of loved ones who must put on a brave face and smile as they suffer along until the end. He pulls a business card from the breast pocket of his sport coat and reads the inscription upon it. “WELCOME TO THE LAST NIGHT CLUB” |
