on recovering from insulting someone inadvertently
What was it  that came over me?

An evil spirit, a little devil? I'm all at sea!

Those loathsome words I spoke,

Were cruel, unkind, indeed no joke.

I do not know from where they came,

Those awful words were to my shame

Just sitting there, waiting to be uttered.

"So  sorry did not mean it," I stuttered.

I never planned  to say that word.

To think that of me is just absurd

I know it hurt my friend so much.

The things I said of such and such.

No way to put words back in again.

They cannot be unsaid. Refrain!

My voice echoed round the space

Followed by silence and disgrace.

Perhaps a diversion can be tried,

"Watch your head! Stand aside!"

"She feels unwell, give her air"

Or drop a glass upon the stair.

Hope that in the noise and press

They forget my faux pas.mess.

But when all is said and done

Apology is needed, a humble one.

Can we please get back to normal now?

It does not really need a big pow-wow!

I wish I'd never said those painful

Words that burn and ache, so awful!

My voice echoed round the space

Followed by silence and disgrace.
