Of Love or Stone

Inside of us all,
lies a strong beating heart,
that makes each of us who we all are.

Its beat is in time,
with all we hold close,
dear to us near and afar.

A heart may keep beat,
with sweet, brilliant love,
with kindness, joy, and with warmth.

Or a heart may be made,
of harsh, rigid stone,
loving only of things, cold and hard.

When one makes the choice,
of love, life, and hope,
twilight brings naught to bemoan.

But the heart made of stone,
that only loves what it owns,
is sure to die sad and alone.
