A poem about the ups and downs of a mans life and how each time less of him survives.

-Raise and Ruin-

The temple
Of this man
Wasted again
His holy home
Left in shambles
Every wall
Damaged
Every window
Broken
The roof
Blown off
Separated
At the seams
Fragmented
Across the spine
Allowing
The darkest elements in
While all that is within
Ends up escaping
Out into the ether
Out beyond recapture
Beyond rationale inferences
And wistful assimilation
His very foundation
Is again further shaken
Raise and ruin
Not the same
But happening
As one
His heart
His mind
Everywhere
In between and besides
Infected with such pain
God how does it hurt
He cries out loud
Hear what he says
Listen to his words
They’ll rebuild
What is to be lost
They’ll restore most
Of what was laid to waste
A monument unto themselves
The building blocks
Of all that he knows
To be capable
Raise and ruin
Happening at once
Simultaneous madness
An uplifting feeling
That leaves him understanding
That what rises from the ashes
Is quick to burn down again
Somehow beyond reason
It becomes increasingly flammable
Each time the cycle completes
Each time the madness repeats
When he reaches
The apex of his turn
He’ll look back down
Knowing again
Truly understanding
Where it is he is heading
Such a vicious cycle
Of high ups and low downs
Is a maddening example
Of destruction and rehabilitation
A sample of what God is capable of
He does not have faith
He has something much deeper
Something beyond reasonable precepts
Something beyond faiths cruel hand
And disparaging demands
Something he fights to further explain
Each time that the cycle completes
Additionally larger pieces
Are made inoperable
Each time what once fit
Now does not
He is left with less than before
He is absent of what is required
To be truly restored
To a glory he no longer knows
He wishes that his life
Was as easy as moving on
But sadly it is not
Each time what he loves
Is torn down
Each time what he adores
Is so brutally taken away
A larger piece of him
Never again returns
At some point they’ll be
Not enough of him left…
