    1      Life changing events

         Maria, not knowing how this Friday the thirteen is going to change, her life forever and she cannot stop the events that were set into motion.

         Maria and her family were talking and getting things ready to head out on their road trip to San Diego to go to sea world.          

Maria stomped her foot on the floor to get her mom and dad attention.  “Dad did you grab the snack bag?”

         “No not yet”.

         “Ok I’ll get it.”

         “Ok sunshine.”

         “Mom did you grab the sunscreen and your hat.”

         “No thanks for reminding me honey.”

“I think we’re all OK Jim, said to Marcella.

         As Maria and her family were driving down the interstate her mom and dad listening to the radio and Maria reading a book.  As her mom and dad listen to the radio the news man came on and said that there was heavy fog was rolling in and that you need to watch out for slower vehicles on the road and don’t use your high beams headlights! And he repeated again do not use your high beams it makes it harder to see in the fog.

         “Jim said I don’t see any fog yet!  It must be further up the road. As there were cars and big rigs flying by.  All of a sudden Maria parents could hear tires squealing and cars hitting each other and head light going all over the place! The fog was just around the next curve on the backside of the hill. They had just witness a thirdly car pileup.  Maria parents pulled over and got out of the car and told Maria to stay in the car and lock the doors!  As they opened the car doors they could hear people screaming for help and people calling on there cellphones.  Maria could smell burning tires and flesh along with antifreeze.  Jim told Maria to call the hospital and tell them to get ready for mass casualties and he gave her a number to give them that told them this was not a joke and to tell them to send the flight for life and to call in all the help they can get.  Jim and Marcella said they will be back soon.  They were going to see if they could help.  Maria parents were both doctors.  Marias mom was the chief of Orthopedics surgery and her father is the chief of staff at the local hospital in San Francisco.  They know that they need to see if people needed help as they walked up the interstate.  They saw that there was severely cars tangled up and people help.  As they got closer to the cars they saw that people were trapped inside severely of the cars.  Maria father was helping the other motorist prying open a car door were a couple were trapped inside the SUV.  The couple were heading to the airport for their honeymoon.  Maria mother came over to help.  She climbed into the back seat of the SUV to help the couple stabilize then.  They start to smell fuel and a little smoke around them.  All of a sudden they see flames start shooting up from one of the car just in front of them they started to work faster to get the couple.  When all of a sudden the SUV they were working on bursts into flames.  Maria mom and the couple are trapped in the SUV.  Her father blown into a car ten feet away and is severely burned and knocked unconscious.  Maria waited for what seemed like days in the SUV tell there was knock on the window waking her up from a deep sleep.  Maria was scared by the person knocking on the glass she could not see who they were all she could hear them say they were the police.  They were saying that she need to get out of the car and come with them it was not safe to stay in the car. She did not believe them she could not see the people faces and clothing it was dark and they were shining a flashlight in her eye.  Maria tried to sigh to the officer but he did not understand her so he took the flashlight and smashed out the side window the SUV and opened the door.  The doom light came on the office saw that Maria was scared and was hiding on the floor in the backseat.  Officer Thomson looked at Maria and asked if she was ok Maria shook her head and then office asked if she understood what he was asking her and she shook her head agen.  Then he asked her what her name was and she started to sigh her name and the officer stopped her and handed he his small pad of paper to write on she wrote her name down.  She told him that she can hear but was unable to speck he said ok.  He asked if she know where her parents were at she said she did not know it’s been hours since she last seen then.  She said that she but on her iPod and was leasing to music and she had fallen asleep the car.  Officer Thomson told her that she had to come with him that they were trying to clear cars off the road and that fire was coming close to where they were at.  He grabbed the paperwork from the glove box that tells me who her parents are and where she lives.  Several firefighters came by and told officer Thomson that he need to get moving the fire was picking up speed with wind speed picking up.  Officer Thomson took Maria to where they were taking all the people from the pileup.  Officer Thomson gave the paperwork he had taken from Maria parent’s car to the lady and she started to put in info into the computer when it beeped and said told office Thomson to look at the monitor and he shook his head.  He took Marias hand and took her to his squid car then took her to the hospital.  When they got there Officer Thomson took Maria to the front disk and asked were her farther was.  The nurse told him to go to the waiting room there is his family is waiting there.  When he got to the waiting room Maria saw her ante Nancy and Uncle Tom. Maria ask Nancy were mom and dad were at Nancy told Maria to come and sit on her lap and Nancy told Maria that her mom had died and her dad was in bad shape.  Officer Thomson said he had to go back to the police station and fell out paperwork. He gave Nancy his card and to give him a call if she had any questions?  Later that night Nancy called Officer Thomson and told him that Maria dad had passed away.  Officer Thomson said he would come down and he would call child services to help with Maria.  Officer Thomson came about a hour later with the social worker.  The social worker told Nancy that Maria can go home with her Tom. She also said that they will need to find her a more permanent place to stay.  Nancy said that they did not want Maria they were to old to raise a young kid.  Maria was all alone agen for the second time in her life Maria was adopted at very young age.  Maria real mom was just fourteen when she had Maria and gave her up for adopted right after birth.  Jim and Marcella adopted Maria when she was just two months old.  Maria was the love of their life since they could not have kids of their own.  Maria went to an all girl’s school she was a very gifted child.  Maria went to stay with a very close family friend and Maria very best friend Lawanda.  Lawanda’s mom was Maria mom best friend from grade school to college.













2          Life’s little bumps











         Maria was school life was not so good.  She was smart for her age.  She was two grades ahead for her age.  Maria never really very many friend’s most of the kids did not went to learn sign language to talk to Maria.  Lawanda was smart but not a smart as Maria. Both girls played sport volleyball, filed hockey, basketball.  Maria also was on the chess team and the debate team. Lawanda was also a cheerleader and was more of social person a party girl.  At the age of 16 Maria had emancipator herself and had moved back into her parents’ house.  Maria did not need a job her parent and left her with plenty of money.  But Maria tutored other kids at her school and a few collage kids to.  Lawanda moved in with Maria when she was seventeen after her dad passed away.  Her mom blamed Lawanda for his death. Lawanda and her dad had a big blowout about a boy that she was dating. He had caught her bed with a twenty year old man.  Her dad had called the cops on him and read her the riot act about being a reasonable young lady she stormed out of the house that night. Her dad had gone out to get her form Maria house when he was hit and killed by a drunk driver.  When Maria was eighteen here real mom had come back into her life and had moved in with her and Lawanda.  Marias mom Jacki had told her everything about why she put Maria up for adoption.  That her so called boyfriend had got her pregnant and left her and that her parents had disowned her and kicked her out of the house. Jacki had no way of taking care of herself or Maria.  Maria was not mad Jacki.  Maria was glad the Jacki was back in her life.  Maria boyfriend Jimmy moved in with then and shortly after that Lawanda boyfriend Jeremy did to.  Jimmy is a mechanic he builds one off high-end sports cars and off-road vehicles for disable people.  James is a computer programmer and part-time robotics engineer.  Jimmy and James might look like a couple of red necks but they are far from it.  Jimmy and James get then self into all sorts of trouble with the things they build to have fun with.  Lawanda likes to parties and gets into trouble from time to time but Maria is always there to get her out of it.  But the girls both ended up graduating High school at the age of eighteen.  Both girls took a year off from school and took trips to Europe to have some fun.  Lawanda fell in love with art and fashions. She did a little bit of modelling but she did not like it.  It was too much work she said

Maria was looking at art buildings architecture but her passion was in helping people.  Maria wanted to be a doctor just like the adopted parents.  Lawanda wanted to go into fashion design.  The falling year the both in rolled in to collage
