Three siblings go on a journey to save their trained animals to survive the apocalypse. |
"What do you see?" "I don't know..." "What do you mean, you don't know?" "Shut up!" Margaret whacked at the back of her younger brother's head. "Ow!" he yelped. "Stop it, Em! I hate it when you do that!" "Sh! Stay quiet, Leo!" hisses the youngest, Logan at his brother, Leonard. "Dude, if those things appear out of nowhere, I swear you're the first to go!" Margaret whacked Logan this time. "All there's left is us, we can't risk fighting now, guys!" *** It started in the morning. Margaret, Leonard and Logan had woken up to strange noises by the window. THUNK, THUNK, THUNK! They woke up and to their horror, found a gruesome looking man in ragged clothes, blood pouring from wounds that should've killed him. His eyes were missing and some of his fingers were twisted at an unnatural angle. He clawed at the window, trying to get to them. Margaret screamed and Leonard drew the curtains. Margaret covered her mouth to stop herself from screaming as Logan calmed her down. After a while, the monster had given up trying to get to them as it couldn't see them. "It's started!" she whispered urgently. "I can't believe that they actually bombed us, while we were asleep!" "I thought they were joking!" replies Logan quickly. "They launched what again?" "A bomb which raises the dead," answers Leonard, the smart one. "They created the bio-weapon as related to the myths of 'zombies'. It kills people and raises them too. It's a good thing our family prepared for this." Margaret gasped loud. "Mom! Dad! Neo! Where are they?" Leonard and Logan turned to their eldest brother's bed, which was empty. Margaret opened their bedroom door a crack. She saw a blood-stained hallway and no sign of her parents and brother. She saw a bloody note by her door and took it. She closed the door swiftly and quietly when she saw a zombie outside the window by the hall. "Look what I found!" she whispers to her younger brothers. "Look at this note, it's from mom, dad and Neo!" The siblings gathered around the note and read it silently. "Margaret, Leonard and Logan, It's happened in all a flash. There was a loud earthquake and the ground shook. Mum and Dad felt it, but not us. They woke me up and told me to get my spiked baton, which I did. They told me 'it's happened' but wouldn't tell me exactly what has happened. Mum had her crossbow while dad carried his machine gun with the knife in front. I heard moaning and growling downstairs, the zombies had already resurrected. It was only then did I realise that the Bio-chemical War had begun. The zombies managed to get to the second floor but we held them off. Dad started to load our animals into the teleporter when a zombie had tripped over the wire and sent dad to a place me and mum don't know. When we killed the zombie, we found out he had been sent to a safe place, the animals, however, got sent to the places I have written down: 1. ManaRay Drive 2. Penguini Road 3. Tom Avenue 4. Shadow Falls 5. Feanix Building A 6. KeeKee Junior's Eatery I do not know which of our beloved animals will you find but I wish you the best of luck. We left Baron at his cage, his armour is on the dining table. Suit up and hurry. Me and mum will try to meet up with you at ManaRay Drive. Keep an eye on your phone. ~Best Wishes and All Hopes We Have, Neo." "Well that was helpful, send the little ones to get the pets," grumbles Logan, earning a smack in the back of the head from Margaret. "Suit up!" she hissed. "Now!" 16-year-old Margaret Ariana Williams got into her thick down-filled jacket and her thick jeans she used for trudging in the snow. It was starting to snow, hinting she may need the clothes. She packed her knapsack with her necessities and toiletries. She fixed her short brown hair with a headband and searched under her bed for the shotgun her father had taught her to use years ago when the war threat was made. She packed all her shells and took her small sword. Her chocolate eyes looked red under the bright light. 14-year-old Leonard Jack Williams took his trench coat and slick his short black hair back. He took his bow and loaded his quiver with his best arrows. They all had nylon ropes attached to them for easy retrieval. In his bag, he packed his stuffed Calico Cat and his iPod. the music on it helped him relax. His black-brown eyes conveyed knowledge of nearly everything. 13-year-old Logan Nero Williams was a short, but strong young man. He was a very mature person with the strength of a man. Despite his age, he did not like being treated as the youngest one and often joins the older teens in their conversations. He got his black blazer and let his feathery black hair be as it is. His brown eyes only showed determination to find his family. He checked the edge of his sword and kept it in his sheathe, which he slung over his back. He took a small dagger for himself and took a solar battery charger for his sister's phone. The siblings made it to the dining room on the first floor and took Baron's armour from the table. The blades on it were all polished and the metal itself was shiny enough to portray their image like a mirror. They took it and made their way outside. The zombies surrounded Baron's cage and tried to get at him but the Rottweiler ripped and tore out any limb that he could get at. Unmoving corpses lay at the foot of his cage and the ones that still walked were missing fingers or arms. Baron barked when he saw his masters. "How the heck do we get to Baron when all those stupid zom-bozos around him like that?" asks Logan. "They aren't attracted to sound, are they?" "I don't think so," replies Leonard. "Zombies aren't technically the best at hearing. Just at smell, feel and sight." "Well, if that's the case, then here we go," mutters Margaret. She picks up a stone and chucks it at the zombie closest to her. It turned and growled. It trudged closer and and moaned. The other zombies saw this and turned their attention away from Baron. Margaret raised her shotgun and fired, killing the zombies with one shot of scattered bullets. "I didn't know that worked that way," mutters Logan. "You never know how anything works," says Leonard, earning himself a punch in the shoulder. Baron barked as Margaret opened his cage to let him out. Baron sat down in front of her obediently as she put his armour on. He had two extending retractable blade by his shoulders and a spiked chest plate. The armour gleamed pitch-black. Baron was a large Rottweiler. He had the regular black-over-brown design a Rott would have. He had brown arms and legs and a brown muzzle. His teeth were his most formidable weapons as well as his claws. Now he had his armour, he was not one to be toyed with. Baron wagged his stub of a tail and allowed the siblings to put their bags on his back. Margaret went into the family barn and looked for any animal that had been left behind. There were three horses, their stables surrounded by zombies. "Baron, attack!" commands Logan. Immediately, the Rottweiler barks and charges, his armour blades extending. He runs through the undead, separating their bodies at the torso. He crushed the heads of those who survived and dismembered them. "Baron, return," calls Leonard, and at once, Baron returns to them. "Shadow, Night and Dancer are still here," says Margaret, patting the black horse's head. "Why would they leave them?" "Probably to help us get by," suggests Leonard. "You don't expect us to walk all the way to ManaRay Drive, do you?" Dancer is a horse with a pure white coat dappled with grey spots. She had a long blond mane that was tied to the side in a loose ponytail. Her black eyes were darker than Baron's armour. Her hooves were black equipped with spikes horseshoes. Shadow is a dark brown horse with a short black mane fixed like a mohawk. His legs had fur at the tops of his hooves and were also equipped with spiked horseshoes for defense. His eyes were chocolate brown slightly dotted with caramel. Night is a pitch-black horse with white 'socks' on his legs. He had a white diamond on his head and grey around his eyes. His mane was grey with streaks of brown, and was fixed short. His eyes were white from a birth defect but had excellent eyesight. The siblings had fixed the saddles and armour on their horses and packed food for a long journey; Baron's, the horses' and theirs. Before they headed out, Margaret took one last look at their house. "I'm going to miss that place," she says. "We're not going to be away forever, Em," says Logan. "Just until this War blows over. Plus, we'll be safe when we get our animals back. We've trained them years ago so that they can help us defend ourselves from the zombies." "But what if we don't get to them in time?" says Margaret. "All we'll have is Dancer, Shadow, Night and Baron..." "Oh, don't think that way, Em," replies Leonard. "We'll get there if you hurry the hell up!" And with that, the siblings ride their horses out the gates toward ManaRay Drive, their loyal dog, Baron following close behind them. |
