Family betrayal and war between tribes. Will love save the day? Or will evil triumph? |
PROLOGUE If a human sees you make sure you scare them away. Don’t run back to your tribe until you are sure they won’t track you. Cause if you don’t they will track you down and kill everyone you know and love. That rule about humans was put there for a reason. They are no good evil creatures of doom and destruction. I know this because I was there as they destroyed everything. My tribe, my family, my life. Perhaps I should explain who I am first. My name is Misty Rezitithy. I am roughly 15 human years old, with eyes as blue as the frozen sea, and hair as silver as the mist itself. I have a small birthmark on my neck which symbolizes the wolf tribe. I am the next in line for the title of wolf leader. That’s all that I can’t give away at this time. Anyways, it all started on a cold autumn morning. My father had asked me to fetch some food from the human's territory. It was my first time leaving the tribe's territory. I took some of the tribe’s best warriors with me as a family to help carry the food home. One of them was my oldest brother, Michael and the other was my beloved David. In the human domain, I pass as a fifteen-year-old. My escorts can pass for 20-30 years. I needed escorts just in case something went wrong. Humans are too curious for their own good. Violent as well, very violent. As we reached the edge of the territory I hesitated. Michael laughed at me. “Awe is the baby Misty too scared to go to the human’s domain. Maybe I should tell dad that you’re not ready” he said as he stepped over the territories boundaries. “In your dreams dick wad. I’m perfectly ready to go.” I growled as I put on my baseball cap to hide my wolf ears. We reached the street within five minutes. I was pretty shocked at how busy the area was. Without realizing it, I had started shifting into my wolf form. I felt someone smack the back of my head to reverse the shift. “Watch it, babe, don’t want to get us caught do you,” David said. I smiled at him in appreciation. We walked to the small food warehouse in silence. We took alleyways and less populated streets so I didn’t shift. When we reached the warehouse I was made to scout the area. From what I could tell there was no human activity in or around the warehouse. So I reported back to David. “No sign of human activity yet my love,” I said cheerfully. He nodded and quietly broke the lock on the door. We entered the building with no problem at all. “We should split up to cover more ground. If you find anything or are in trouble, howl and we will find you.” Michael explained. I nodded and headed to the east side of the building. I work quickly knowing that we could be caught easily if I didn’t. Not long after I started I found the boxes of food. I looked through the boxes and found lots of canned veggies. I also found things like canned milk, soup, sauces, pasta noodles and other kinds of non-perishables. I jumped in delight as I began grabbing a few boxes. Suddenly, there was a small movement behind the stack of boxes I made. I stiffened, bracing myself for an attack. I gave a small growl to scare who was behind the boxes. When I sniffed the air I relaxed a bit. It was a familiar scent. “Come on David, playtimes over. I know it’s you.” he popped out from behind the boxes. “Jesus David I almost attacked you. You’re lucky I took the time to sniff the air.” I yelled at him quietly. He flashed me a grin that made me unable to stay mad at him. “Well looks like you found the jackpot baby,” he said appraisingly. I looked down to hide my blushing face. He walked towards me as he continued to praise me. I hadn’t realized he moved until he lifted my chin. I jumped in surprise as he lowered his face to mine. He smiled as our lips made contact. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled myself closer to him to deepen the kiss. I was having difficulty since he was an entire foot taller than me. Sensing my struggles, he lifted me up and placed me on a small stack of boxes. We continued to kiss as he removed my cap revealing my ears. His hands went from my waist to playing with my ears. I moaned in delight as he bit them. Chuckling to himself, he pulled away. “We should call your brother tell him we found something,” he said sadly. I nodded and softly called to my brother. When he finally arrived I had accidentally fallen asleep. My brother smiled as he gently shook me awake. “Hey, nice work sis. Sorry, I took so long got a little lost in this dam maze,” he said as I got to my feet. I kissed my brother on the nose and handed him a box. He took the box and began to walk outside. I looked around to see if the humans left something we could use to move the boxes easier. Then in the small corner, I saw something useful. It had wheels and everything. So I ran over and grabbed it. I was able to fit six boxes on it. I was so happy that I didn’t notice my brother standing in front of me. I bumped into him, causing him to drop his box. He spun around and glared at me. He didn’t say anything, but picked up his box and walked out. Suddenly we heard footsteps coming towards the building. I looked at my brother and he looked at me. He swore under his breath and began to run towards the door. I did the same. But then I noticed that the humans were behind the door. I grabbed my brother and veered in the opposite direction. He silently thanked me as we found another escape route. We managed to escape the warehouse without being seen. We got to the edge of the forest in no time at all. As we caught our breath I noticed David wasn’t with us. “Where is David?” I asked. “I don't know. I thought he was with you.” Michael replied. I shook my head as I began to pace back and forwards. “I’ll go back to see if I can find him.” “No, this was my mission. So it is my job to find anyone who is missing. Besides you are stronger than me I can take the food to the base. Tell father I am just saving David’s ass okay.” I said. He nodded and took the wheel contraption from me. I went in the opposite direction. As I neared the warehouse I could hear David howling. Followed by what sounded like gunshots. There was a very strong scent of gunpowder in the air. “Shit,” I muttered under my breath. I ran the rest of the way to the warehouse. I found David almost immediately after reaching the warehouse. Or rather he found me. We collided with each other. As I gathered myself I breathed a sigh of relief. I grabbed his hand and dragged him towards the forest. We reached the forest in a matter of minutes. “Are you okay my dear?” I asked him. He nodded as he leaned down to kiss me. “I am now. Thanks to you. You saved my life. I’m forever in your debt Misty.” he said pulling away. I blushed and hugged him. I was glad he was okay. I suddenly felt weak. There was a small but sharp pain in my shoulder. That’s when I smelt it. The smell of blood filled the air. I looked at my shoulder and shrieked. There was blood leaking from my shoulder. As the pain grew to me too much I fainted. The last thing I heard was David yelling at me to stay with him. I woke up several hours later back at the wolf camp. My brothers and my father were standing over me. “W-w-where is David.” I managed to say as the pain in my arm exploded. My brothers moved out of the way to reveal David sleeping in the chair beside the bed. “He’s been here the entire time. He refused to leave until he knew you were okay. How do you feel” Ethan, my youngest brother asked. “Like shit how else little bro like shit,” I said. My father kissed my head and said that he needed to call a meeting with the other tribes in the area. My father left the room and Michael spoke up. “I shouldn't have let you go after him I should have stopped you and gone myself.” I motioned him to come closer. As he leaned closer I hugged him. “It is okay bro; really I’m fine I’ll be good in an hour you know that.” I smiled to show that I was truly OK. He managed a small smile in return. A few minutes later they left the room to allow me to change. I hopped into my loose jogging pants and a loose t-shirt. I then kissed David on the forehead and went to leave the room. I got to the door and was instantly picked up off the ground. I yelped as I began squirming in my attackers' arms. “Where do you think you are going Misty?” David demanded as he bit my ear. I looked at him innocently and replied, “Just to the training area.” I jumped out of his arms and began walking towards the training area. “Oh no you're not,” he said grabbing my wrist and pulling me into him. I tried to wiggle free from him but he had me locked in his arms. “You’re still badly injured Misty. You are not going anywhere till you are fully healed. Do I make myself clear?” I looked at him and growled. But he just stood there with a serious look on his face. I badly wanted to argue with him but the scent of him was overwhelming me. It made me want to stay wrapped up in his arms for eternity. So instead of arguing, I just leaned closer to him, putting my head against his chest. David relaxed a bit when he realized I wasn't going anywhere. He then scooped me back up and carried me to the little house we shared. He placed me into our bed and put The Lord of the Rings on for me. Then he climbed in the bed beside me. I curled up next to him and fell asleep within 20minutes. I awoke to the sounds pots clanging in the kitchen. I groaned and tried to cuddle closer to David. But he wasn't in bed with me. Because I was still half asleep I panicked. “David? David where are you?” I said bolting out of bed. I ran into the kitchen and stopped dead in my tracks. I giggled as I saw David cooking some food. He looked at me and sighed. “You know this was supposed to be a surprise right.” I smiled at him and kissed his cheek. Within another 20minutes his master creation was finished. Shepherd’s pie with mozzarella cheese oozing out of it. There was just enough for both of us. So we sat on the bed eating from the dish. The next day my father called a tribe meeting. Everyone was in the tribe square within 5 minutes. All 57 tribe members were accounted for. My father started off by congratulating me on my first mission outside of the tribe. A few people clapped in appreciation. He then went on saying that we all needed to be careful when out doing missions. We were also to make sure that no human follows us back to the tribe. When the meeting was over my father pulled me aside. “How are you feeling Misty?” he asked. “I’m fine, daddy. Honestly. I healed up quite nicely.” I replied. “That’s good. Now I know this is rather soon after your first mission, but I need to do some scouting for me. Your brother Izaak is working on training the younger ones today. Do you think you can take his shift?” I nodded “good to hear Hun so your job is to scout the area, to make sure no human has entered the territory. If so I need you to chase them off.” he said. I saluted and headed to the south side of the territory. After about an hour after starting the scouting, I spotted a small human boy. He looked about 5 years old. I shifted into my wolf form and stalked up to him. I gave a small growl to try to scare him off. He looked at me and started crying. I immediately felt bad and transformed back into my human form. I knelt down beside him and said, “Hey. Hey. Hey. It’s okay now. You're alright so stop your crying.” the boy looked and me and smiled. He stood up and hugged me. I was so shocked that I froze there for a moment. Then I hugged the boy back. “Thank you, Misses. You scared that means wolf away. <Sniffle.> but I’m lost can you help me find my daddy. Please?” he said sweetly. There was just no way I could refuse him. So I stood up and held his hand while we looked for his father. A few minutes later we found his father. He was frantically looking all over the place. “Billy. Where are you?” he said “Right here daddy,” the little boy said. The man turned around and sighed with relief. “Thank you so much, miss-” “Misty. Sir. You really shouldn’t let your son run off like that especially since there are wolves and other predators in the area. It would be wise to leave now before you get hurt.” I said. He nodded as he held out his hand. I shook his hand as he noticed my wolf print birthmark on my neck. “Is that a tattoo?” he asked staring at my neck. I suddenly felt like I was in danger. “Um no actually it’s a birthmark. Listen I need to run now. Please leave this forest and never return. Okay?” he nodded and released my hand. When he left my sight I headed back to my post. Sadly there was no other excitement. As my shift was coming to an end Izaak relieved me early. I thanked him and went to find my father. When I did find him he was drinking a chi tea. “Father my shift is now over there was only one incident. But I dealt with it quickly. It was a boy and his father. I don’t believe they will be a problem.” I said as I sat down in front of him. He smiled and handed me a cup of tea. We sat there for a while and drank our tea in silence. After a while father began talking about the other tribes. Damion Malkovich, the leader of the vampire clan, wanted the leader of the wolf clans’ eldest daughter. “Wait so the leader of the vampire clan wants me?” my father nodded. “He says that in exchange he will help protect this tribe.” He responded “You did tell him I was already mated right?” I protested. He nodded again as he continued “Also our dear friend Draxonis Neiddlekinz wanted us to come to visit him this summer. Meakelio Seethryn declared a truce between us. And finally, Elizabeth Cohen wanted access to the nightshade which only grow on our territory. What do you think? As a future leader, you must make these decisions on your own.” I thought about it then decided I liked all but Damion's proposal, for obvious reasons. When I was ready to leave he got up and hugged me. I released him and turned around. Suddenly I was knocked unconscious. When I reawakened the entire camp was on fire. I bolted to my feet. I searched for my father. I found him with a human's hunting knife in his chest. I ran over to him. “Oh god. Oh my god. Someone help. Help me. Please, anyone.” I yelled trying to stop the bleeding. I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw my brothers. All five of them. At first, they stood there stunned to find me with my bleeding father. Then Nathaniel cried, “How could you sis. How could you betray us?” I looked at him confused. “What are you talking about?” I demanded. “Izaak told us that you took his scouting duty. And the humans came in through your area,” said Trasield. I looked at him in disbelief. “You know I would never do that bro. It wasn't me. I swear.” “The evidence proves otherwise sister,” Izaak said pointing at dad’s now lifeless body. I was scared my brother thought I betrayed them. I couldn’t handle it. I stood up and ran. I ran and ran until I bumped into David. I looked up at him with tears in my eyes. He looked at me then at my blood-stained hands. They reeked of my father. He looked at me with pure hatred. “Wait I didn’t kill him I swear I was trying to stop the bleeding,” I said. But he wouldn’t listen. Instead, he growled at me at changed into his wolf form. His beautiful black fur seemed to glow in the firelight. He attacked me before I could process what he was doing. Before he could to much damage I shoved him off me and transformed. Then I ran away from the tribe, away from my old life and all my loved ones. |
