The
Great Devastation
The last
morning sun, the type of sun which greets you with a very warm light,
was gone and today was entirely covered with the black curtains of
darkness. Few have survived and most of the people were killed during
the past few days. Dawn break is coming and soon the light of the sun
will spread forth again giving vague visions obscured with what seems
to be the remains of once striving and living.
Though the
skies may be cleared, the bosom of the earth has been soaked deeply
with human blood. Agony, pain, suffering, fear and hatred - a
person can hear it murmuring its broken words everywhere. This is a
cataclysmic change that sent everyone cowering in fear, agonizing
over the deaths of many and suffering the pain inflicted to them.
Everything was dark and moments from now, the real battle will about
to begin for the Legacy.
The
3 D's
DEATH.
There's nothing left in the scarred remains of the planet. Few
people still survived and still persist in living but how long?
Darkness blanketed the surroundings and even if there was light, it's
just a sign of another day ----- another day of grieving and
suffering ----- it's better to be dead than to live a life of hell
day by day without doing but by witnessing your fellows die or get
insane but will still die. It would be lucky if you go first because
not much would matter anyway. In this time, the moment you'll be
born, you can only heed one thought and it's a proven fact long
time ago: surviving means hell and dying means heaven.
DESPAIR.
As days goes by so does the resources starts to deplete, each of the
people needs their own necessary things you know and now with only
few things left - they compete for it one way or another. One way
or another and everything fall tumbling in the morale of society.
From food to shelter - everywhere has been a pandemonium and
everyone has been turned into killer and lot less mindless animals
were they. There's no hope now - seconds may tick and minutes may
run but as long as it keeps pressing a foot forward, the world will
more likely to be depicted as anthology of nightmares. The blood of
innocent and guilty alike flows everywhere and the 'harmless'
word was not acknowledge again. Kill or be killed - it's the rule
that dominates the skies, waters and lands.
DESTRUCTION.
Days turned to months and then to years, it's getting clearer that
three days and then everything will be nothing. Not a single soul
will walk in the planet and everything is in ruins. Houses burned,
streets in wreck, fields uprooted, mountains denuded, cities
deserted, beaches bleached with blood. The scene is like there's
been a war that killed humanity with bullets denting or holing
everything and crashes and leftovers of once transportation left in
every place, not to mention the big deep craters, or the simple and
most common things you could see in these times - the corpses
rotting in every direction. Some of them are already stripped off
nothing but with their white bones and some other still had their
flesh but it's started decaying and by the thoughts of it, not a
single insect were crawling in them because even insect have been
lessened far before the humans started to turn on each other. The
stains of blood is also a theme color of this age - it can be seen
painted in the pavements, floors, roads, stairs and everything that
is still intact. Everything turns to nothing and not a single sound
can be heard not even the rustling of the leaves or the whistling of
the winds. As for the Legacy, I think they did well - well enough
to at least salvage some few lives to at least reside within this
dead planet.
Recovery
The world
barely recovered and now it's still bleak and away from that
harmonious picture-perfect civilized way ages that already felt aeons
ago. Traumatized about the near brink of extinction of humanity, each
of the surviving human promised to not do that kind of reckless act
again but none of them could remember what trigger it but instead
they concluded that it was human nature and the human heart which
brought forth the unspeakable horror that nearly got all humans
killed and end their reign. But the question arose "How can they
stop bringing that kind of catastrophe again?" As long as human
strived, human nature will never be reprogrammed unless you'll
rewrite history before Adam and Eve got the bite of the fruit in the
Tree of Knowledge.
The human
heart is out of the question too. It's more vital than human nature
is and without it nobody can live - it's the main source to
sustain of a life of a single person. Biology had known this but even
the word biology was gone and none of the remaining can still
remember what it means. They come to another dead end trying to
answer the question. Then each of them disputes about what is the
right thing to do and only to be countered by the numerous flaws of
the idea.
It became a
dilemma as one presents an idea then later on be scratched because of
the thousands flaws it had. From the oddest solution to the simplest
ones presented but none reach deem to fit the answer of the question
given.
Before
another anger, that will eventually lead into some deadly, broke out,
one person recommend to scavenge the world as much as possible for
knowledge once developed, now lost and be back three years later to
present it and maybe on their way to seek it, they can make a
brilliant idea that will answer the question flawlessly. And then
everyone begins to go in their separate ways.
Expedition
Each of the
remaining alive started to educate themselves into the corners of the
world. Each of them gaining knowledge one after another and different
from each other. There are 15 of them and 15 is enough to be able to
construct an idea that will make the world an utopia again away from
the risk of getting destroyed any minute. From the easiest knowledge
to the most complex one and each of them had mastered it.
They
enumerate one after another what they just find.
Weaponry
Education
Technology
Religion
Law and
Government
Science
Language
Morale
Food
Trades
Information
Relationship
Shelter
Contentment
Magic
15 different
knowledge and 15 different things but neither had the proper or even
the combination to create the perfect solution of the current
question. After three years of journey into the unknown and places
who knows where, they still end up in dead end with the question
unanswered.
Compromise
and Compensation
Alas!
Nothing they scavenge has help then to sort things out and answer the
question. Each of them starts to argue - the seven males and six
females except for the two little girls who haven't yet grasped on
the heating situation and the ones who learnt 'contentment' and
'magic' --- factors who were standing in baseless and useless
foundation. They are the youngest amongst the remaining.
Contentment
who is rather opposite completely to human nature which is always in
need and not be satisfied unless they see things their way but sooner
or later, thirst again to progress. And there's magic who is also
an unproven factor because reality and fantasy don't mix. Yet
there's a chance on the two.
The danger
of having another war again is pretty imminent in the distant if the
discussion won't stop, not far but nearing.
The
survivors exchanged reasonable points that strengthen their field and
also rational reasons to weaken the others. Then there's religion
versus science, weaponry versus education and other types of opposing
factors which further heated the discussion. Normally, others
defended their own and try again to pin-point another until the
congregation was no more than a debate of importance.
The calm
congregation, greetings and presentation turned into shouting and
irritation and cursing until the two little girls who were not
participating acted on their own to stop it from getting worse. They
suggested and finally put an end to it that there's no perfect
society because as long as there is living, risks are place on every
being.
That
silenced the level-headed idiots that were fighting over who are the
more vital one. They dismissed their shouting and apologize to one
another before an idea was fabricated to unite their knowledge and
bring back the old before the Great Devastation society. It was
indeed a great idea.
But the
question and risk that it will lead again to another catastrophe is
still there, looming around. Reminiscing about what happen, they
can't help but to feel pain. Pain ----- it's the only mutual
feeling they had for the first time.
It's
terrible but it only means one thing it's the key. The dreariness
of it might terrify the upcoming citizens to not do the same mistake
again eventually this leads to the 3D's
Rites.
It
starts on the offspring of the survivors locked inside a place and
will fight till death on their mastery either by magic or weaponry or
other things. It was a tradition really to remind them what a grave
mistake it was they have made in the Great Devastation. Over the
time, it begins to change and now, it became more of a rite -------
it became a betting game with lives on the line no more than an
entertainment.
