A bohemian man regrets his life of careless negligence to his mother.
"The pelicans, sir, had nothing to do with it!"
That's what the man from the pub had told me
A pub close to me home, but closer to the sea
A pub full of memories, of me old mum and me

I have lived a life of heartache and enchantment
A silly, bohemian boy, who took everything for granted
Me and me mates sailed on the "Courage"
But me old mum would never encourage

Years and years, tasting salt in wind
Fears and fears, every night a sin
Mum was alone, since I took the sail
And she grew tired of waiting for bad news in the mail

When I came home, after ages and ages
The man in the pub looked very courageous
"Son, have a seat, I have news so urgent!
Yer old mum passed away, she was gone in a moment!"

And while he spit the words of disgrace
His two pet pelicans just chirped, mocking my face
"Well mate, this can't be true! And if it is I blame the pelicans and you!"
"The pelicans, sir, had nothing to do with it!"
That's what he said with pure disbelief.

"Surely they look very, very guilty!
With all their contempt and never-resting chirping.
Only a creature so very foul would mock
The man whose state is deep, deep shock!"

The wind and the salt took over me mind
As I walked 'round the pub with a restless sigh
"But me mum can't be gone, she was fine last  time I saw her!
Gave me a kiss on the cheek, and said she wished I had a brother!"

"Oh my, oh my! Now I can see!
Me old mum is dead and it's all 'cause of me!
Those pelicans can tell, just look at the beasts!
They mock me and mock me, won't they just let me be?!"

"Control those demons, old mate!
I have to go home and my face must be straight!"
He answered "Young mate, I know that's what it appears
But The pelicans, sir, had nothing to do with it"

With a tear on me face and the maddening chirp on me mind
I walked alone for a very, very long time
Remembering home, me mum and my old life, and my betrayal of a feeling so real and divine
