After the last rites

If God gifted me
with a gift to see,
I would select the never
which even alone
was better than clone
of fanciful forever.

Both son and daughter
left me with water.
Then did I kill my morals
and turned to a slave,
a human depraved,
just for a few false laurels?

My wife cried some tears,
she too shifted gears
Nothing mine remained except
a forgotten chair
a small night prayer
and a few images stained.


1) Form: Alouette
The Alouette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more stanzas of 6 lines each, with the following set rules:

Meter: 5, 5, 7, 5, 5, 7
Rhyme Scheme: a, a, b, c, c, b

2) In Hinduism, the last rites involves burning a body and throwing away the ashes in water. The second stanza talks about the same rite. Also, wives are not allowed to participate in funerals. Only son (rarely daughters) perform the last rites.
