Even the smallest of things, even those we overlook can hold great meaning.
Who am I (Part 2)

Hi! Hello! I tell you what

It’s nice to meet someone

Who will listen to an old fool like me.

Most people walk over me.

Most people walk around me.

Some, well,

Some walk even on me.

I suppose I’m a bit of a pushover.

No harm. No foul.

I’m not bitter about it.

Though since you’re here,

I can tell you something from my past. One of my stories.

I may be a bit passive but I’ve had a storied time.

Quite storied mind you, I’ve seen it all.

I’ve seen generals whose skin was kissed with sun,

Muscles tanned like bark, great shining plates of bronze and steel

Glistened as the sun’s rays and the moon’s glow.

I’ve seen warlords whose skin the color of snow,

Muscles scarred with wounds, covered in hides and cloth

Dull as the mud and the earth.

Each time-

Each time-

The same outcome,

It made me bored of these powerful men.

The same outcome,

The blood stained ground. The blood stained horizon.

But let me tell you of the one memory that stuck

to me.

A memory I cannot forget. Not that I want

to forget.

Let’s see…

Ah!

I remember a time when two simple homes were built,

And two children grew up next to one another.

A simple time, a time when the sky was filled of

Billowy clouds, gentle winds that caress the face like

a dog or a cat rubbing its fur gently on one’s face.

Let’s see…

Ah!

I remember a time when the children of these homes,

These children, mere toddlers, came out to play.

One, a fresh-faced boy waddled a bit.

He took two steps before falling on his rump. I laughed at him,

At his cuteness. At his simplicity.

I was proud of the boy, even if he wasn’t my own.

The other, a fair-faced girl waddled a bit more than the boy.

She got three instead of two steps and didn’t fall down. I smiled at her,

At her cuteness. At her simplicity.

I was proud of the girl, even if she wasn’t my own.

I was proud of the girl, I was proud of the boy.

Even if they weren’t my own.

Let’s see…

Ah!

The two children grew up good and well, handsome and beautiful.

I remember the little boy grew strong and well,

He was sturdy and strong though

He had a softness for all things.

I remember the girl grew up gentile and sweet,

She was graceful and quick though

She had a sturdiness for all things.

Let’s see…

Ah!

I remember they held hands beneath the Stars.

I remember they embraced beneath the Moon.

I remember they kissed beneath the Sunrise.

I remember they loved beneath the Sun.

I remember they married beneath the Sunset.

I remember they bore children beneath the Moon.

I remember they were buried beneath the Stars.

I see…you know…I see

I may be a passive soul but they relied on me.

For I was always there!

To give them a future,

To give them hope,

To give them fervor,

To give them a Future,

To give them air.

For I was always there!

Who am I?
