The sad plight of a female foetus in a remote village who is underestimated for her gender |
The Blessed Curse She cries, She pleads, She begs, She screams Only to find all of it vanishing unexplainably unheard ‘How’ could life be so mean & ‘Why’ would life be so mean When there lied no fault of hers When there could never be any fault of hers If given a chance She could be a boon to her household Do all the dishes, Wash all the clothes She would even bear the wraths of her over- pampered brothers Toil in the fields to support her father If that could save her from the misery she was bound to suffer If given a chance to get educated She would strive real hard And accomplish the task to get a decent pay So she could match up to her brothers Amidst whom it would be difficult for her to stay If given a chance She would willingly oblige to get married to a man of ‘their’ choice And serve his family day and night Raise his child with all her might And keep them happy as it was her birthright Only if given the one chance She would pour out all of it On how she could bring a change into all of their lives On how she would try and benefit them in the years to come by But Alas! They were her slaughterers The least they’d do was lend ears to her pleas They did just what she’d feared they would Pulled out the tongs And plucked off her head Gasping for air She breathed her last breath |
