A short poem describing a fire. It is inspired by Ted Jones' "The 38."
I hear the timber crackling in the blaze,
I hear the Oakwood falling in the heated haze,
I hear the children screaming for attention,
I hear the fire seeking its redemption,
I hear the blasting sound of the fire hose,
I hear the forceful rage of the wind that blows,
I hear the structured walls concave,
I hear the firemen try to keep it at bay,
I hear the smoke rise through the sea of red,
I hear someone shout “he’s nearly dead”,
I hear them click my leg back into place,
I hear my scream at the careful hands on my burning face,
I hear him say “the wounds are deep”,
I hear him sigh as I open my eyes, they’re blind and they weep,
I hear him calmly say “it’s ok just sleep.”
I hear…
