This is a concise poem about my escape from the dark.
For my shadow is now lost to me;
lost beneath the darkness of sea—
cast away into the screaming breeze,
‘neath the sorrow of the weeping trees—
She is dead, and with her … the past;
a story of sorrow, a journey in grey,
wrapped in pain—now in gelid ground,
shallow perhaps, yet safe and sound.

In rained a light, a beautiful glow;
that warmed this heart,
and mended broken soul,
cast now away the darkness behind,
for that glint can now blind,
off of that shore and into new life.

Now forthwith—a vigorous new shadow,
one of my own, who turned that sea into ocean,
a pride within beauty come out—

May no leviathan swallow the traveler;
for she is me and we have risen from the black,
loosed of its grip, rid of its hate,
shed of its shell, and let go of its weight;
this struggle … unlike no other,
has rendered me death and within that,
into the light—new life.
