satire about televangelist
They are making a religion
the great “limited edition.”
They make your sandwich
just the way you like it
but first you must submit…
to their everlasting endeavors
for they come in all flavors
and broadcast on all channels
if you listen closely, you can hear them in your head
they are dealing the decks and raising the dead..
They forecast the weather
sunny in all states
and they are standing at the golden gates
waiting with palms stretched wide open
if you don’t have cash… they are now accepting plastic
boasting a million ways to feel fantastic
if only you listen to your living room radio station
and you believe you are their creation
to resist them is useless
to be yourself is hopeless
and the devil is getting his giggles
for his contract and new 401k plan
God is shaking his head at their castles made of sand.
They are trying to bargain with the angels
telling them that everything that matters sells
even faith, hope and love
but God has a message for them:

“what have you done?
my flock …who love my son,
you lead to idols.
you lead my souls to dolls
Instead of salvation, you lead them to dust
for this you will pay. In hell, your coins will eternally rust
as your hearts did along the way.”
They are digging their graves
forgetting that Jesus saves,
they are handing out the offering plates
throwing around the money
and throwing around the terms, “sweetie and honey.”
but in the end false faith fails
and they are struck down crawling and crying
watching each other dying
pointing and laughing
despite their fear, they couldn’t help themselves…
and as they dwindle away to nothing

….They are losing their religion.
