One step can set it off.
Fire blazes in my chest.
"You shouldn't have done that."
My face feels hot
from the flames burning inside me.
My eyes are shining,
brimming with outright fury.
Like lava flowing from an erupting volcano
it boils and spills over,
tracing hot black rivers down my cheeks.
My heart is beating, hammering, slamming away,
like a child with a temper,
threatening to break out of my rib cage.
I bite my lip,
fighting to regain control of myself.
But I don't fight too hard,
you deserve this.
"You went too far this time."
I tremble like the earth when it quakes
and I swear "I'll bring you down."
I could kill you,
rip your fucking head off.
My fists clench so tight, that
my fingernails break skin.
I don't notice,
I don't feel anything.
My rage is blinding me, but
I can still see you...
Standing there in front of me.
You've gone all shifty,
backing up slowly,
hands up, palms out,
in "surrender."
You make me sick.
I move toward you,
you scurry away like a rat,
tripping, but never taking your eyes off me.
You right yourself,
so slowly you're barely moving,
careful not to set me off,
avoiding the bomb, but
your mumbled "sorry"s
just wont keep me from detonating.
You've tripped the land mine.
Again.
You're not sorry,
not yet.
But you will be,
