Part of being a writer is being a good listener as to what is really being said. |
-Always Be True- by Keaton Foster I could not lie I have not the time I speak only the truth Bent like a spoon Useful to only fools Such liars in kind Always telling me tales Halves of quarter truths Curious of my kind I listen quite well I willingly play along Hungry, I take the bait Hook, line, and sinker I thrash around From the depths below To the waves above Back and forth I go They fight to land me As I fight to resist further injury The battle between us rages on For minutes, for hours, for days Sometimes the line breaks Sometimes it’s the weight Other times it’s the tension Resistance has always been my greatest weapon I understand it better than most Better than those who try to catch me If I could speak with any real clarity Instead of so poetically I would say, I would shout, I would scream Always be true I am sure that they would not listen I know that they could not understand We are similar creatures made different I have been through hell, I know quite well I am well aware of what is both up there And what is way down here Telling me their tales Is just part of the game I take what they say deep inside I make many of their sayings mine Then just like that The potential meal on the line Easily becomes the man holding the pole Then it is them that is caught Many of them read what I write Often unaware that what is being said Is more about every one of them Than it is about any part of me That is why I often say Always be true And what is being said And what is being taken in Will be regurgitated in ways That will sooth your hunger to be fed And your desperate need to understand… Always Be True Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2013 |
