The story of how my grandmother survived
South, in the desert land.
A tragedy.
A girl taken from her family,
and thrown in the home of a demented man.

There her soul was taken,
her body was no longer hers.
She no longer could defend.
She was only twelve.

Forced to work,
she wanted freedom.
When she did wrong,
mercy never did come.

Three years of work,
three years of pain,
three years of avoidance.
Three years of being treated a slave.

Finally she had enough.
She stood up with fire in her eyes,
she fought even though it was rough.
She won and escaped. never asking why.

When she reached home, there was nobody there.
Tired of crying, she created a new life.
Never looking back, but
keeping her name: Valentina
