Under the crimson moon
Leaves rise up like waves on the sea
And the haunting cry of the loon
Echoes through every bush and tree
The wind is softly whispering
Under the crimson moon
The crickets start to chirp and sing
To celebrate the month of June
But all this singing stops mid-tune
For men have come with ax in hand
Under the crimson moon
These blood-red monsters strip the land
But despite these men's wicked ways
Their little lives will end quite soon
And evermore the oak leaf sways
Under the crimson moon
Notes: This is an Empat Empat poem. There are four stanzas, and a refrain that occurs word for word in the first line of the first stanza, second of the second, etc. The rhyme scheme is Abab, cAca, adAd, eaeA. For this particular poem, the refrain is six syllables long, while the other lines have eight syllables. This is not, however, a requirement for all Empat Empat poems.
Also note that "every" should be read with two syllables, rather than three (as uncommon as that is in normal speech, it can occur).
