This is the start of the Novella I'm working writing. let me know what you think
The cool spring air rushed through the open window as Gary Oarman was roused from his sleep. The red, blue, and white lights flashed lighting up the bedroom of the one floor home. The woman sat up rubbing sleep from her eyes with a yawn. Her night gown was significantly wrinkled, and she brushed at it with gentle and soft hands, preparing to face what was out there. She looked over at Gary, the large man stood next to the bed only wearing a pair of XXL gym shorts. His long black hair was quickly graying, as was the accompanying beard. With a swift shake of his head, the woman knew her place. she pulled the covers back over her breasts and laid her head of matted brown hair back o the pillow. Quickly her eyes became heavy, and she began to fall back to sleep.
Gary, looked down at the woman, his expression did not change. He grabbed a rubber band from the night stand. Pushing his hair back with one hand, in a choppy yet rehearsed motion he tied the long stands back. With his round belly overhanging his waist by several more than a few inches, Oarman walked out of the bedroom and across the kitchen to the front door. As he walked the noise of the outside commotion grew. Gary had no clue what had happened, but it was not good that was all he did know.
Outside the grass was wet, and squished under the size sixteen bare feet of Gary Oarman. The patriotic colored lights flashed against the dark of the night. The lights lit up the neighbor hood, and flashed against Gary's large frame. He held his hand up, to try and cover the bright lights, and see why they were there. As he walked he tried to take in his surroundings. There seemed to be two squad cars, the only two in the town, and an ambulance. The ambulance had to be from Petersburg, thought Gary the nearest hospital. Gary neared a small cluster of people. they were huddled in blankets, men had their arms around their wives and the children were squeezed between the legs of mother and father.
When he reached the group, one of the men turned to him. 'Gary!' exclaimed Ed Ventures, the man who lived across the street from Gary. 'Can You believe this?' Ed asked taking a step toward the larger man. Ed was wrapped in a large comforter, with a fur cap pulled low over his face. 'Well' started Gary 'I don't know what the fuck is going on, so no I can't believe anything.' Ed pushed his glasses up, from the brim of his nose. When he spoke, his breath was visible. 'You know Ruth's husband, Frank, well we think he might of had a heart attack. No one knows for sure, but things might be serious.' Gary rolled his eyes and began to turn. 'Is she a right' Ed asked. 'who?' responded the big man, turning back 'Ruth?'. 'No,' Ed began, 'that girl you bought in. I saw her. Molly said she was pretty cute.' Gary let out a laugh that was part sigh, and waved the idiot off. He walked back to his house. When he got back, the woman was sitting up. He looked at her, as he took the rubber band out of his ponytail. 'Well?' she asked in a fragile and nervous tone. 'Nothing' came the response, as Gary climbed into the bed. 'Go to bed, I've had enough of that bullshit.' He pulled the cord on the lamp and rolled over. The woman sat there watching the lights flash. After a few minutes she laid down, and tried to go to sleep.
