He cranes his neck to look out the window of his second floor office. The blinds and fire escape partially shield his vision but he can still tell that her car is parked along the street. The clicking of her heels on the hardwood stairs had tipped him off to her presence.

She opens the window to the fire escape. She scans the street hoping to see nothing. The scent of burning powder still lingers in the room. Her eyes return to his collapsed body and his bare left hand. She smiles. She extends her arm towards his chest and uncurls her index finger from her fist. Her thumb emerges and points toward the ceiling before quickly collapsing back into place. She giggles.
