A special poem about the human heart and its purpose. |
-What's A Heart For- by Keaton Foster If not to beat If not to live If not to believe Then I ask Then I question What's a heart for What can it be How does it seem Is what it feels real Or is what is real More a matter of mind And less of a concern Of something mired So deeply So completely Within flesh and blood Is what is real More of a lesion Attached to the spin Infecting the outcome Imprisoning the occupant Keeping us from knowing From understanding What's a heart for Unsure Unclear Unaware Nothing do I know I wish that I did I wish that I could But I cannot Sad at times I may seem In ways that may cause you To feel sorry and hopeless For me Please don't It's not what I wish Not what I require If you want to help If you want to play a part A role in the performance Of my life and not your own I ask of only one important thing An honest display Of one of your attributes One that I find Inexplicably impossible Curiosity What's a heart for I wish that like me For you to spend The sum of your days Trying to figure it out To decipher all meaning From something serving Such an important purpose...
