long poem about a mirical
I know that something bad has happened,
I can see it in their eyes.
The people that are talking to me
Seem to be growing shy.
I wish that I could still hear them
Instead of reading their lips.
For I am growing weary now
And can no longer com up with quips.
I guess that it is time for me
To recount my sudden tragedy.
By now, I'm sure, you must have guessed
That I am fading slowly.
Or maybe it's not actually dragging,
I really couldn't say,
I lost the ever helpful skill of telling time
Just a few...
Moments?
Minutes?
Hours?
Ago, in that fateful crash.
It wasn't my fault,
It couldn't have been,
It was my green light.
But someone in the other lane
Didn't notice their's was red.
I heard the screeching of the tires,
But they couldn't stop.
They ran their car right into mine
And then I saw just white.
Slowly the white faded away
And was replaced with faces full of fright.
They stared into my dying eyes
And asked if I was alright.
Of course I couldn't tell them no,
So I simply stared into the night.
It occured to me a moment later
That I was on the ground.
No longer was I sitting safely
In that car of mine,
Which I had called "The Hound."
The coolness of the pavement
Began to freeze me solid.
It sent ice into my bleeding veins
And fear into my soul.
I knew this was the last time that
I'd see the cloak of snow.
I couldn't let it end like this,
With me dying without a fight.
I had to try, and try as I might,
To bring myself around.
That was when I hear it,
A loud, alarming sound.
It rang and screamed
And howled at me
To get up off the ground.
I opened my eyes,
Not sure what to expect;
Maybe it was God,
Calling me home,
But what I saw was no phenomenon.
The eyes that were staring at me
Were not ones I'd seen before.
They were gray and old
With all their hardships met.
Around those eyes were wrinkled lines
And stories spoken without words,
Enough to fill a fable.
The woman that was watching me
I thought must be an angel.
She looked so kind and pleased,
Like she'd just witnessed a miracle.
At that point I saw her cry
One single tear of joy.
She looked right into my soul
And told me something I'll never forget:
"My darling you are beautiful,
And I know that we've just met,
But my son wanted someone here for you,
Incase you should wake up.
You see, the other paramedics,
They gave up after just ten minutes.
But my son, he kept pushing on,
And that has saved your life.
It took him nearly half an hour
And many electric shocks,
But he finally got your heart to beat,
And then they repaired your broken body,
In an OR full of faith.
After that they sent you here,
In order to recover.
But my darling,
Oh my dear,
You've done something better.
You have also saved my son,
For he was going to quit.
He kept on telling me
This job held no fulfillment.
After saving your sweet life,
He called to tell me so,
He is staying in the job,
But wait- there's even more.
He told me of the magic
That he saw near you.
He said that you glowed
For a minute, maybe two.
And then he heard a voice of power
Telling him to fight.
He told me now he understands
In something up above,
He thinks there may be a God afterall
Because your life was saved."
The woman stood and waved goodbye,
And I just blinked my eyes.
In that split-second the women vanished,
The woman was simply gone.
But that was when I knew my fight was over,
That was it, this war had been won,
I was the champion.
