A ancient evil sealed away thousands of years ago is released upon the world.

2027, December 19th

Jane, Dan, Tasashi and Fredrick were mining away at the coal deep underground like yesterday, when Tasashi called everyone over stating he "found something". They all peered into the dark tunnel that Tasashi unearthed behind the wall, then all of them climbed in with flashlights and walked down the tunnel. All of them began smelling something foul and sinister.

Dan saw something in the dark and shone light on it. The light exposed a rotted away corpse, lain upon the floor in extremely old and tattered robes. He nudged at it and nothing happened, Tasashi laughed and said " You scared Dan?". Dan turned around to reply to Tasashi, when he heard a noise behind him. All 3 of them looked in shock as the rotted body rose up in it's robes behind Dan.

Dan said "What guys?!" in a nervous manner, and Jane shouted " TURN AROUND!", still in shock. Dan turned around while saying "stop guys" in sarcasm, but his scorn turned to horror as he took in the corpse standing before him. It ripped out his throat with it's exposed jaw. Everyone screamed before being swept off their feet by a tremor.

The ground beneath them collapsed and they all fell deep underground. They were reported dead, but no one bothered to search. 2-3 months later a new team of miners were down there in the same area. Several miners reported moaning from within the wall hole, but were ignored. The next day they were digging and heard hundreds of moans escalating in volume around 3-4 pm. All of a sudden the entire wall behind them collapsed and hundreds of ravaged bodies sprinted out into the mine and began to climb towards the surface.

By the next morning they were all over the surface and had started to infect a small portion of the city. Some roamed around in robes, others went around with a human arm in medieval armor. Swat teams were sent in only to be completely overrun and devoured; all the survival sites became swarmed and forgotten, all hope was lost.

2 years later, 2029

The whole city had been infested with the undead. Corpses and cars were strewn all over and some skyscrapers were on fire. The undead were confined in the city, quarantine walls had been set up and the ones that escaped were shot on sight. Back down in the mine, black roots had begun to sprawl over the walls of the unlit tunnel and something sinister had begun to manifest.

A chopper flew over some skyscrapers and touched down near the mine entrance. Army Sergeant Henry Reed jumped out of the chopper along with his squad and they each went in different directions to scout the city. Henry headed for the mine while one of his subordinates, Tom, scouted out the inside of a building. Another, Ken, was dealing with a group of zombies running down a dusty street. Henry neared the site of the original outbreak, and could see the collapsed wall even though the lights were threatening to die out.

They died all of a sudden and Henry heard growling ahead. The lights flickered back on and Henry found himself surrounded by a hungry horde; the lights died out again as he screamed. Ken came rushing down the street and couldn't manage to shake the horde; turning around, he unloaded a whole clip on the horde, then ran down an alley. He spotted a ladder near a dumpster and began climbing, but a zombie latched onto his ankle. Ken kicked it in the face, and continued up the ladder.

Henry's right hand man Sam was atop a roof sniping zombies and radioed to Henry, but got no response. He radioed to Ken and Ken asked for assistance. Sam left the roof, loading his assault rifle, and saw Ken running across the street, being chased by 50-60 zombies.

He opened fire and felt a cold but strong hand grasp him by the ankle. Sam looked down in a panic as a legless zombie hung on to his leg and took a bite out of it before being shot in the head. A black fluid pooled in the bite as Sam pulled out his med-kit and bandaged himself. He looked up to see Ken being torn apart. He then heard Tom screaming blocks away and looked all around before zoning back in. He started running to the evac site with zombies on his tail at six o'clock.

He pulled the pin off a grenade and dropped it. As he ran like hell, he heard an explosion and a zombie leg hit him in the back of the head. Sam fell down, exclaiming "what the hell?!", then got back up. He continued running and the chopper entered his sight nearby. He picked up speed as the zombie horde grew with zombies coming out of alleys and buildings.

He ran for the chopper, zombies in hot pursuit and turned around for a second to see the support beams being blown out. The building collapsed on them as he got in the chopper. Sam hid his wound right as the pilot turned around and began to fly back to HQ over the ruined city. Sam passed out halfway back and woke up in his room to the sound of sirens. He ran to a balcony outside and stared in shock at a huge hole in the quarantine wall. Hundreds of zombies were rushing towards HQ.

Meanwhile the black roots had grown longer and bigger and inhuman screeches had begun echoing from within the hole. On the surface the zombies grew closer and closer, mauling the swat teams sent to stop them. Sam stood on the balcony with binoculars watching them get swarmed and yelled" DAMMIT!". He rushed down the hall and snatched a rifle out of a private's hands then picked up some grenades.

Sam sprinted out the door towards the horde and called over his radio to rally his men. They joined him and took a stance. The zombies got close enough and the men pumped them with lead. 2 minutes later hundreds of corpses were strewn before them. After the battle, Sam was called into HQ and was asked by the commander about his squad; He replied" They all were overrun by the dead". The commander sighed and walked out of the room sipping his coffee. Sam went to his quarters and sat down on his bed.

He took a look at his wound right as a soldier named Garrison burst into his room. Garrison noticed and asked" What the hell is that, are you bitten!?". Sam quickly covered it before Garrison got a good look at the wound; then shoved him back out, and slammed the door in his face. Garrison brought 4 men with him and busted into Sam's quarters again, Pinning him down, they exposed the wound for a good look.

Garrison chuckled with the others and said " Well, Sam, you're infected, so we have to kill you immediately. He pulled his pistol on Sam but one of the men grabbed his arm only to be tossed down. Garrison aimed between his eyes and opened fire. Sam evaded the fire and ran towards Garrison with a combat knife, plunging it into his throat.

Called back in to the interrogation room, Sam explained " I had to protect myself, Sir, he opened fire on me". "THAT GIVES YOU A REASON TO PUT YOUR KNIFE IN HIS JUGULAR PRIVATE!?" said the commander as Garrison was rolled by on a medical bed.

"Sir, he attempted to put a bullet in my sku..." "ENOUGH, you are stripped of your rank and excused from my meeting room", growled the commander. He came up and tore Sam's militia officer badge right off his uniform and pushed him out of the room. Sam went back to the balcony and was met by a bone-freezing wind as he looked towards the infested city. He saw a medieval zombie chewing on a arm near the hole in the quarantine wall. The zombie looked up and stared right at him then screamed.

In a flash zombies began crawling up from the dirt and stone in uncountable numbers. Sam started to leave the balcony but felt a extreme pain around his bite wound and fell down. His vision began blacking out, then he regurgitated everywhere and began to convulse. He stopped convulsing and stood up as a zombie and could smell flesh in the air. He ran with unseen speed down the hall and knocked over a soldier, he tore out the man's innards and feasted on his corpse.

Sam left his bloody feast and stopped in front of a elevator, 2 privates were conversing unaware of the death that awaited them. The doors opened and the soldiers were found torn to pieces minutes later. Sam was shot at by a troop in the barracks and stood for a minute, then ran at the troop. Another came around the corner and blew Sam's half-rotted brains all over the floor. They tossed the corpse down a body chute and radioed in" we got the target".

Sam's body dropped into a fire and was burnt to a crisp while a janitor mopped up the bloody floor. The Janitor finished and troops were sent to guard the breach in the quarantine wall overnight. 3:42 am, the troops were sitting together sipping on beer watching the hole.
