Political pandering and religious zealotry drove my blog off the tracks. |
Rewrite I started this blog as an outlet for short stories and discussions on the literary arts, fine arts, and history, with an occasional aside for the “soft” sciences—particularly anthropology and sociology. Too soon, though, the outrage inflicted on my country by government and religion begged for comment and the blog lost its focus. I’ve learned two significant lessons over the time that my attention turned away from my original intent: (1) haters gonna hate, and (2) you can’t fix stupid. From these invaluable insights I have determined that haters do not stop hating by having revealed to them that their hate is a product of a decline in mental health and morality, and stupid comes from the closing of the mind to its own intellectual capacity. The mere act of writing about religion and politics must surely lower the writer’s emotional state. Why should I spend time and attention on people and subjects I hold in utter contempt, while neglecting those that arouse enthusiasm? My first love resides in the literature and history, and to those subjects the blog will return. I’m sure that the poisonous hate and unfathomable stupidity coming from political extremists and religious zealots will at times demand response, but I will attempt to engage primarily with those subjects worthy of my time and talents.
