Escape To The Death

As I ran breathless along the black, foul smelling alleyway I thought I had outrun my pursuer.

Looking back and seeing nothing but an empty wall of darkness I stopped and leant against the cold stone, my heart hammering against my chest.

At once, a strange mist descended around me and my blood ran cold.

The ghosts. Translucent bodies dripping with blood and and sweat gathered around me, a deathly cloak.

I thought I was running to safety.  I was wrong.

The ghosts closed in and I screamed and screamed,

And no one came.
