Solving a murder. With a twist.
(wrote this as an assignment for my English class)
(to understand where I'm going with this, Google search "Walter Mitty" and/or "Walter Mitty Syndrome")

Sirens have been blaring all night long. Police cars have parked outside the building for at least an hour. Bystanders have stood waiting outside the police tape, wondering what was happening inside Apartment 15.

"What do you make of this, Detective?" said Lieutenant Johnson. He stared at the detective who had been turning a magnifying glass over and over.

The detective's mouth opened, "A clue, Lieutenant." The detective took the piece of paper from Johnson. He eyed the torn edge. It had a small tangible chip of nail polish. The nail polish was gold and glistened with glitter. He looked at it even closer with his magnifying glass. The glitter was actually made of minute pieces of diamond.

"I know only one person who has nails like this." The detective pulled out his cellular phone and started to dial.

No answer on the other end of the line.

Johnson noticed a vibrating sound for about ten minutes. He lifts a blanket and something starts ringing. He uncovers a cellphone under a load of cushions. Obviously, someone did not want it to be found immediately.

"Detective?" he asked Detective Mitty.

Nothing comes out of the detective's mouth. His eyes widened with concern.

He scowls, discovering streaks of blood leading to the bathroom.

Detective Walter Mitty raises a towel from the floor that was covering a pool of blood from under the bathroom door. He tells everyone to be silent. "I hear something," he says, staring at the door.

He reaches for the bathroom doorknob. He slowly turns it...

"Housekeeping!"

Walter Mitty wakes up from another dream.

He lets the maid in. He, on the other hand, goes down to the main lobby.

He sits on a couch in the lobby, lifts a newspaper.

Soon, he drifts off to sleep.

"Doctor, he's got a severe case of cardiac arrest!" a nurse informs. "He's unstable!"

A medic comes in, explaining that they would soon lose him. A doctor turns around.

"Not on my watch," says the medical extraordinaire, Dr. Walter Mitty, M.D.
