The Darkness Bender
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prologue: lightning
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was Friday night and I was heading to the bar through an ally. I had just turned 21 and was starting to drink every weekend starting after work on Fridays. It started raining while I was walking, and I continued walking the same pace since I liked the rain. Thats when this stream of lightning hit me and I was in a cold snowy area near what looked like a huge ball of ice with a hole in the top. I looked around and saw two kids in jackets with fur on them and one had a boomerang and thats when I passed out.

Chapter 1: Darkness
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up in an igloo with my shirt off.
"That must have been some weird alcohol fueled dream." I said as I stretched and scrached my head.
I looked around and noticed I was in an igloo and there was a kid that was bald with tattoos on his arm and head. Then a girl walked in the igloo.
"Oh, your awake, we had to make sure you were ok, you just fell from the sky, your clothes are over there" she said pointing. "Can you tell me why they look so strange, they dont look like any nations clothing." she asked.
"They're American" I said looking at her weird "I guess this is Canada or something." I said.
"I don't know what either of those places are, this is the Southern Water Tribe." she said confused. I looked around again and noticed everything looked like Avatar and she said some references from the show. I got up, got my clothes on, and started walking towards the exit when she stopped me.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"I have to see for myself, none of this makes any sense." I said as she started to look at the ground by me. "What?" I asked.
"Your shadows acting weird." She said. I looked next to me and the shadow from the igloo was bending towards me.
"How are you doing that?" she asked.
"I don't know." I said.
"You should see my grandma, she might know why, she's at the tent nearest to us, I'll see if the other guys alright." she said.
"Ok, but whats your name." I asked.
"It's Katara, whats yours?" she said.
"Mines Nate, I guess I'll see you later" I said and walked away. I walked to Katara's grandmas' tent and looked in. "Hello, anybody here?" I said.
"Hey, your that guy Katara found, I bet your here to ask about your shadow, I noticed it when she brought you here, and you can call me Kanna." Kanna said.
"Hey Kanna, and yeah thats why I'm here, has it ever happend before? And my names Nate" I said.
"Nice to meet you, and yes, this has happend before, your a rare case, even rarer than the avatar. Which I suspect is the kid you were found near." she said.
"Yeah he probably is, but what about me, why am I rare?" I asked.
"You are most likely the darkness bender, this is rare because theres only been two, my mother had to tell me about them, she told me 'sometimes when the world is at its darkest, the darkness can manifest itself like the elements in the avatar, a way of having a better chance at balance' I didn't know she was telling the truth." she said.
"So I can bend darkness like any other element, how do I learn if theres only been two?" I asked.
"Probably through scrolls, but they will be nearly impossible to find, and if you do it could just be a story and no tips on learning the powers." she said.
"I guess I can try to find that library in the desert, maybe that will have something." I said.
"You know about that library, thats an old legend, like you I guess." she said.
"yeah." I said and laughed a little. I heard noise outside and saw a ship coming. It was the fire nation ice ship. I ran through a group of people to the front as soldiers walked out with Zuko. He pointed at me.
"You, You don't look like you belong here, come here!" Zuko said.
"And if I don't" I said. He smirked and shot a fire stream at me as I raised my arms over my face and somehow a shadow formed infront of me blocking the blast. He looked surprised.
"He's no ordinary bender atleast, he's coming with us or we'll burn this village down." I looked at him and tried to fire a shadow blast or something but nothing happend.
"Ok, I'll come, just don't hurt anybody" I said and walked onto the ship.

Chapter 2: Fire
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was sitting in a room on the ship when Zuko and Iroh came in.
"Uncle, do you know how he did that weird shadow thing?" Zuko asked.
"I've heard of a darkness bender in the past but I only heard vague things about him." Iroh said.
"It looks like he discovered the powers recently since he has no skill with them yet." Zuko said. "If I bring him back will he count as the avatar?" He asked.
"I don't know, maybe, but I heard the darkness bender was on the fire nations side, maybe he'll help us." Iroh said.
"I'm not helping the fire nation, most of you are just bullies that murder and ruin other nations." I said.
"Looks like we have his answer." Zuko said. The door blew off with a shot of wind and Aang showed up.
"Come on!" Aang said as he made Zuko fly into the wall. I got up and ran to the deck of the ship behind Aang and there were soilders there. I tried to push my hands forward to do some attack and made a circle of darkness infront of me and fell in it. Another portal appeared behind the soldiers and I fell through it. They looked surprised as I got up and got a weapon from the ground. Then a scroll fell out of a darkness portal above me with a note on it. I picked it up and read the note first, it read 'study! ...ps make sure you find this in the library and send it to this point in time, and dont let this scroll touch the one you find in the library!', then I looked at the scroll and it showed darkness bending moves with a list of powers and abilities and how to use them. I used a basic attack that looked easy and threw a small ball of darkness at a few soldiers and it worked. Appa showed up and we got on him and flew away and I got introduced to Sokka and Aang.

Chapter 3: Air
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was reading the scroll as everyone else was sleeping, I read a part about time travel and decided to see if I could change something. First I teleported to Azula's room and she was looking in a mirror. She turned and looked at me surprised.
"Who are you and how did you get here?" Azula said taking a fighting stance.
"Just think of me as a spirit, I know of things to come and if you don't want them to happen you'll listen to me." I said opening a portal.
"What is that?" she asked.
"It's a portal of darkness, just follow me inside, you'll want to see this." I said walking near the portal with Azula following hesitantly. I opened the other end of the portal to the time at the end of the show a little further away from Azula chained to the metal grate by Katara.
"If you keep being evil, if you keep going the way your going, this will happen, now I happen to think your beautiful and I do see good in you, I just want to help you from becoming that, and I think you can be good." I said.
"How does this happen?" she asked.
"The good guys beat you, it's as simple as that, I can't go into detail cause if you do end up bad you won't know how to stop this." I said taking her through a portal back to her room.
"Are you on the good guys team?" she asked.
"Yes, and I just don't want you to end up like that, and the only way that can happen is if you are good." I said.
"I guess I could try" she said.
"Good, I have to go now." I said while leaving through another portal. I ended back where I left and saw Aang wake up Sokka with the stick saying there was a snake in his sleeping bag. We went to the air temple and looked around till Aang saw the dead monk and went avatar state. Katara stopped him and we left to get to the Northern Water Tribe.

Chapter 4: Water
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We reached the Northern Water Tribe and the whole time I was contemplating telling Sokka about what would happen or giving some kind of warning, in the end I decided against it. When everyone else was introduced to the people of the city I watched the waterbending practice thinking I could get some kind of practice from the style like Iroh did.
"You, are you a waterbender?" Pakku asked.
"No, I'm a rare case when it comes to bending, I was just hoping to learn something from waterbending, I traveled here with the avatar." I said.
"What do you mean by 'rare case'?" he asked.
"I'm the darkness bender, though I'm training I'm getting better." I said.
"I have heard of the legends but never seen him, can you show me what you can do?" He asked.
"I guess I can show you what I know so far" I said and teleported behind him. "I can do that, also just throwing basic darkness balls, I've heard they burn but not to the darkness bender, like some kind of 'soul burning fire in it's purest form' whatever that means" I said as he looked at me.
"Impressive, is there anything else?" he asked.
"Well there's time travel but I'm still kinda learning that, it says here I can bend the elements like the avatar but in a dark form, and dark sub-catagories of bending will be natural to me" I said. We eventually had a duel but he won since he's a master of his art. I just walked around thinking about Azula until the fire nation attacked. I tried to block a boulder with a teleportation portal but wasn't skilled enough to make one that big and dodged in time. Eventually I went to the place with the koi spirits and saw Aang turn into that giant waterbending thin and I felt something too, like the moons darkside or something. I turned into a darkness form teleporting onto boats and disabling the catapults and throwing firebenders away from the water tribe. After it was over I passed out and woke up on Appa's back flying away from the city. Katara said everyone was glad for what me and Aang did but I didn't remember, she said everyone said bye while I was asleep for a day.
