I BURNED THAT BRIDGE In a little town in the mid-west I found true love had passed the test and I said "I do" without any hesitation. Well, the years went rolling by and he only hurt me, made me cry - there was no room left for adoration. Chorus: So I burned that bridge - and walked away, I don't look back 'cause I couldn't stay. Some women stay. afraid to leave, wondering what he's got up his sleeve. Trying to be the woman of his dreams, nightmares happen, so it seems - and the nights are long when the fights go on - and you lie there on the floor bleeding. But I burned that bridge and ran away - I don't look back. 'cause I couldn't stay. Broken bones and battered face, black eyes are so hard to erase - and the pain inside is way too deep to ever forgive and just forget. He wouldn't let me go, although I tried, if I had stayed I'd have surely died. Chorus: So I burned that bridge - and walked away, I don't look back 'cause I couldn't stay. Our marred life is just a memory one that's too far gone for recovery, Alone at last, not even a photograph of a smiling bride and handsome groom. Some things are better left behind, forgive and forget comes to my mind, and somehow I'll go on - Chorus: I burned that bridge - and walked away, I don't look back 'cause I couldn't stay.
