Surviving the Heat Wave on the East Coast |
Temperatures rising like a ghost from a grave No amount of water can cool you in this heat wave It's so hot outside the heat is rising up from the ground. While workers search for shade for a moment to just cool down Air conditioners breaking down from running all the time Days and days of solid heat, somebody said that its already been nine Children can't go outside in this heat to play Newscasters predict that more heat is coming our way The heat's so powerful, that people are dying, old, young and in between Power outages throughout the region has made this heat wave very mean No end in sight as we go another day without power or light Come on sweet darkness, bring on the cool to refresh us during the night We all knew that our winter was mild, and that summer would come in like a lion But who knew that this heat wave would cripple us for miles around Cooling stations broke out across the land to help with cooling neighbors and friends But nothing could have prepared us for this heat wave that seems will never end Lawd today, it's hot outside with heat sickness sneaking up on men and women alike Hovering over our bodies like a fine fitting dress that's entirely too tight It's hot outside and the breeze and wind have forgotten to blow Child get in here and stop opening and closing that door There has been some cooling in between, but it brought more misery and pain As lights and power went out on the East Coast from Florida to Maine We've got to try to keep cool if we want to survive But I'm sick of this heat wave so an electric fan or a generator, I must buy Because it's hot out there, and I must stay alive! |
