There are four lines I can't make out; changes the meaning drastically. |
From the beginning I should admit that I've become a Michael Jackson fanatic since his death in 2009. I went back and re-learned the lyrics I'd memorized years ago. Michael Jackson is no Mick Jagger as far as word slurring, but he comes close at times. Remember that part in the Whoopie Goldberg movie where Jim Belusshi was a spy and she worked at a bank. One night she stays up super late, in her funky pjs and big slippers, and listens to Mick Jagger on a tape over and over again, trying to write down the lyrics. She has problems understanding his musical enunciation. It was funny in the movie. Maybe you had to be there. But Michael Jackson does not enunciate well either. The song currently in question is :This Is It" which doesn't have a recorded image of him singing to try to be able to read his lips. I should go ahead and admit I'm a Baby Boomers. When we were kids, the way we got the lyrics was to listen to the song for as much as you could remember, pick the needle up off the record, and write like heck--hoping your companions had the consideration to work with you and not against you. My best friend in 1966 lived across the street from me, and we spent many hours at each others' houses. In my albums, I still have her and my writing of the lyrics to , like, Paul Revere and the Raiders. Now I think people, kids, just go to the Internet and accept whatever has been throw out there. So I found a "This Is It" video on You Tube, that includes the llyrics printed underneath the imagescreen. That person has four lines wrong. I have four different lines, but I'm not sure I'm right. If you like this song enough to listen, more than once probably, to help figure out the lyrics, you'd be doing me a big favor.
