Love and death
I am running
You're by my side.
I gasp for air, he's following us.
If we don't run, we'll die. Let me back track a little.
We were in the woods looking for water,
When we heard a noise behind us.
He appeared in the moonlight.
He had an axe. I screamed while you held me.
He said one had to die or run to save themselves.
You and I knew it was hard to run. But it didn't matter.
We had to save each other. We ran until we reached a clearing.
Then we stopped for air.
We had to reach the lake. There were houses there.
We heard his footsteps. We started running fast.
I saw water so I started running faster.
You told me to slow down. That I was going to tire myself out.
I started to slow down, then
You fell.
You told me to keep running. But I couldn't.
I helped you get up.
Then he laughed. We had fallen into a trap.
One of us had to die. Only then could the other live.
I don't know how it happened.
But the axe came down on your head.
Red was everywhere.
Yet that wasn't enough.
You didn't die.
I knelt right beside you, in your pool of blood.
I held your hand and refused to let go.
You smiled and said three words that shocked me.
Then your smile slowly faded.
Your green eyes slowly closed.
Your hand became limp in mine.
That's when I knew it was over.
You were forever gone.
