Monster In The Woods

Chapter One

The soft glow was creeping down, towards the horizon, signalling the end of the day.
A bird flew above me. The leaves gave a loud crunch as I hurried through the already-darkening forest.
I couldn't hear the alleged monster that people say came out after the sun had set.
The last rays of the sun disappeared along with my last strands of hope of ever getting out of the maze of trees and undergrowth.
Branches and twigs kept on getting caught in my hair and t-shirt, mud and grass stains plastered my jeans and trainers.
My long auburn hair was a streak behind me as I fled the forest.
My brown eyes searched all around as I ran through the gnarled trees; my chest heaved with the effort of running full pelt for so long.
Snap!
The sudden sound made me look around in horror. My eyes searched the gloomy forest behind me, hoping that the monster was not there.
Then a thought hit me. Could the monster become invisible? Is that why I can't see it?
My pulse raced up a couple of notches. I ran faster, always searching for any tell tale signs that I was being followed.
Smack!
I had run straight into something hard. I fell back on my butt.
"Oof!" I looked up.
I gasped.
I had run straight into...
