the first in a compilation of stories that are interlinked in the grand scheme of things.
Perhaps the distant part of the sky always seems clearest, so that we will always strive to reach it

Himura Henshin (Rurouni Kenshin)

The lost Soul Chronicles 1: Daithos

He wandered through the destroyed village, the smell of blood and burnt flesh filling his nose. With an expression of disgust on his face, he looked around the remains of the destroyed and ravaged village. In the middle of the streets, the bodies of the rebels he and his men were sent to fight were laying on the cobblestones, some missing their heads, their blood draining from the corpses that were laying on their sides, while others were missing their arms or legs, whilst others merely were covered in arrows or javelins, like human pincushions.

These rebels...... did they not know we were coming? it is strange. not one of these men held a sword or shield, and most acted like they had never even been trained in any way.....im starting to think we attacked the wrong village.

He thought. he looked around him again, and seeing that there were no survivors on this main road of the the village, he steered his large black war steed into a side street, looking for any survivors that could be interrogated. yet, there were none.

Strange...there are no women or children here.....although, they may have fled or evacuated either before or when we attacked. but still.......

Gazing down from his steed, he saw on the ground, a small doll, made of burlap and cotton stuffing, laying on the cold cobblestone ground, it's vivid pink wool dress tattered by the tread of one of his warrior's boots. it was then that he noticed something strange about the doll. he dismounted from his steed, and picked up the doll. he looked it over, and confirmed what he thought he had seen. one of the arms of the doll was covered in blood, and it was fresh. he turned the small toy over, and saw that the whole back side was vdovered in freshly spilt blood. it wqas then that he looked up from the doll, and saw a little girl, not far from his tender age of twelve, laying the road ahead of him, with a dozen arrows in her back. he ran to her, to see if she was still alive, only to find that she was dead. he turned her over, and saw that there were three deep slices from a sword.
