Going home isn't what it should be.
It used to be so big
That house upon the loam
Each room was just so huge
With space to roam and roam

My bedroom was a spaceship
With room for friends galore
However it was vacant
A problem to ignore

The fireplace was empty
It became a space for play
A hideout and a cavern
A place to spend my day

The table it held service
For people, up to ten,
For me it served more useful
To function as my den

Our house was very big
But our stay there had to end
There was more space than needed
Even with imagined friends

It’s now two decades later
And this house is near a mall
What used to seem so huge to me
Is really very small

I realize I’m taller
And wider round the hips
But how’d I use these spaces
I surely could not fit

It makes me sad to ponder
How small this life had been
My memories so much larger
Then what had truly lived

So I will keep my memories
And forget that I was here
For memories keep me young
And I will hold them dear.
