The deafening sound of a clock.

Mirrored by my heart

Pulsing in my chest.
Quick little breaths.

In the blackness of the night
Fear comes creeping up my spine
To whisper in my ear
…of time.

Cold sweat.
Dark and deep.
Suddenly!
The world is sharp!

In alternating chorus
Tick
      Tock
Sleet pebbles in my veins.

Blood pumping to my heart
Tighter
            Tighter
Closing in the chest.

Heavy humming silence
Beat
        Beat
echos in my brain.
Falling forward down an icy slope

I am forced to wonder…

Nothing? Everything?
Both too large to fit inside my head
Separated by a light switch,
