My thoughts on statistics. Your thoughts are welcome. |
Dear God, I am more than a number, more than a category. I am more than the shade of my skin, or a grade average. I am more than any single document can convey. I am more than any one conversation can translate. I know that some books may not contain any depth, but none should be discarded for their cover alone. I may belong to a column, or be present in a list, but there is more to me than what's on that page. I know, also, that while not all of us have the words to say this, this is how we all feel. We may not agree on our worth, but each of us know that we are individuals. However we reason ourselves and our world, we all know there is more to be understood about us, individually. We all want to be understood better. We have shed blood and ruined nations trying to be understood. Some of us gave up hope that any man might understand us and turned their sparkling gazes skyward, hoping you might understand us better. Some of us were told that only you could understand us, and we gave up hope of being understood. Some of us understand better, some of us think we do and some of us don't care. All of us, however, dwell within ourselves. If your watchful eyes fall upon these words, God, I pray... help me always to remember that the depths of my soul cannot be listed. Let the echoes of my song be heard, but never let me forget that they want me to understand them just as fiercely as I want them to understand me. Allow me vigilance of this virtue, that I might always have faith in man. Yours, Truly, George |
