The Rose and the Heavens

In the present time, the Rose Vainly mourns…But
Once upon a time, the Rose loved the heavens
Once upon a time the Rose gave all
Once upon a time four rose petals fell

One rose petal, falling to the ground
Falling for the eyes of the clear-blue sky
Two rose petals, joining the other
Falling for the smile of the bright-gold sun
Three rose petals, only one left
Falling for the dark of the grand-silver moon
Four rose petals, falling to the ground
Falling for the truth of the old-black heav’n

One shining star, falling to the earth
Falling for the beauty of the of the dark-red rose
Two shining stars, joining the other
Falling for the love of the long-green stem
Three shining stars, only one left
Falling for the wit of the sharp-tip’d thorns
Four shining stars, falling to the earth
Falling for the laugh of the light–olive leaves

Once upon a time, four shining stars fell
Once upon a time, the heavens gave all
Once upon a time, the heavens loved the rose.
But in present time, the heavens are no more.
