The Last Day of a woman through her eyes.
The Last Day

As I woke up that morning, I knew that the world was different, prettier, somehow. The sun was shining, as warm as could be, but it was a welcoming warmth, the warmth that pleased me. The flowers seemed to be full of fragrances, though I had spent almost four hours everyday working on them, marvelling their beauty and taking in the scent, this scent, today, was like nothing I had ever smelt before.
I seemed more powerful, more powerful than an old lady of 77, like me, could be. It seemed odd to me, hadn't I been complaining of how I had lost my buzz for the past twenty years? And yet, here I was, feeling stronger than ever. There was something about this day that made all the difference to me, to the flowers, to the Sun. As I stared out the window, one last time, before I left downstairs, I saw something unexplainable, something so beautiful that nothing in the world could match its beauty, I saw The Light. Coming straight from the sky, not from the Sun, but it was a ray of its own, as if coming from another Sun, a prettier Sun.
I couldn't believe my eyes, the time had come at last, how quickly it had, I had been waiting for this day to come, but now that it had, I wanted to stay here a little longer, I never wanted to leave, never wanted to let go of this beauty. Unwillingly, I got up and trudged down the stairs. There was my family, my family who never smiled in this house, at this time, it seemed a pity to me that after all this time, I would have to leave with this expression and not their smiles, when I would. I turned to my son first, kissed him on his forehead, hugged him lightly and said "Son, you must not cry when I'm gone and I will be gone very soon, be strong, son, be strong" He looked at me with accusation in his eyes and ridicule. I ignored him and walked on to my grandchildren, hugged them, kissed them and went up to my rocking chair.
As I sat there, I saw the beauty one last time and closed my eyes, forever.
