girl who is seen at school as pretty but quiet but is troubled to the point of self-injury
she walks into the room, slow but confident and strong
you would never sense anything was wrong
she ducks her head as she passes by
and you stifle a longing sigh
the beautiful girl, but she keeps to herself
like delicious food, untouched on the shelf
she doesn't understand what she could be
if she just let go of all her insecurities
forgot all of her purities
but then she arrives home and looks into the mirror
to her it all becomes clearer
her blatant dislike of her looks
it drives her to hide in the pages of books
she can live among her favourite characters
within her novels a secret life she conjures
one with happy endings and sweet romance
with only a glance you would never guess
that she's such a mess
but in the mirror when she lifts her shirt
you can see that she is truly hurt
across her stomach are bright red lines
there have been so many signs
but nobody sees
they all think her a tease
flaunting her beauty to her peers
little do they know her fears
how much it hurts when the wanting boys glance
knowing they don't have a chance
so she gets home and grabs the knife
readying to release the pain and strife
but then the knife drops to the floor
this type of release isn't needed anymore
for she has come to terms with who she will be
her future she can already see
