Just a short allegory of how my life has been for the past year...
This probably sounds a bit overused or cliche, but whatever, it is still an accurate depiction of how I felt at the time.

There once was a young man. He was tall and strong, able to handle himself in any situation. He lived with his family and helped take care of things around the house for his mother. However, he had a habit of not doing what he was told. One day, he decided to go on a walk and his mother warned him not to stray off the path because it was dangerous. The man swore he wouldn't and strode through the door. He walked along quietly, savoring the sweet air and the sound of the wind in the trees. Everything was so peaceful. Before long, the man grew tired of the path and decided it would be more adventurous to go into the woods beside it. Ignoring the warning of his mother, the man walked into the forest.
“This is much more exciting!” he said to nobody in particular. Suddenly, a tall, thin man appeared from behind a tree. He was dressed all in black. The young man started in surprise, but quickly controlled himself. “Who are you?” he asked.
“My name is Temptation and I mean you no harm,” he replied, “I just wanted you to know that I found gold in that spot over there and wanted to share it with you.” Clearly, the man was up to no good, but the promise of gold lured the young man, so he headed in the direction Temptation had pointed. He hadn't walked but ten feet, when suddenly the ground gave way beneath him and he fell into a pit.
“Hey! Temptation! Help me!” the young man cried, but Temptation was nowhere to be seen. Luckily the pit wasn't very deep, so the young started to climb out, but his foot slipped and he fell back down in a heap. Then came a strong hand over into the pit.
No! It's ok! I can get myself out!” The young man called and proceeded to try again, but with the same results. Finally, he grabbed the hand and it pulled him out of the pit.
“Thank you for helping me there,” the young man said, “I don't think I could have gotten myself out.” He looked up, but there was nobody in sight. Puzzling about who had helped him, the man decided he must have just been seeing things and had really climbed out himself. Remembering the gold that Temptation had talked about, the man made his way around the pit and kept walking. He tread lightly this time, not wanting to fall into another pit. Finally, he made it to the spot that Temptation had told him, but there was nothing there! Only a pile of rocks. Realizing he had been tricked, he turned around and headed home, but another great pit, much deeper than the last, opened up beneath him and he fell. Down, down, down he went, into the depths of the earth before he hit the floor. The man cursed his luck and tried to climb out, but failed. Many times he tried, until he gave up and cried,
“Someone please help!” Once again, that mighty hand came down, but the man rejected it.
“You are just a dream, a delusion of my mind!” he yelled. Again and again he tried to climb, but always fell back down. There he lay, panting on the cold floor of the pit, devoid of energy.
“I am going to die down here.” he thought. He no longer had the strength to even grasp the hand that still reached out for him. Not wishing to die a slow death of starvation, the man slowly brought out his knife and with the last of his energy, drove it into himself.
He ignored the hand that could have saved him and so he met his end.
