We often only hear what we wish to hear. This blinds us to reality.
So this is what you meant when you said forever.
Waiting on empty promises; ever closer to never.
The words you said were never anything more.
I ignore windows; staring endlessly out the door.
A heart not beating beats a soul that’s fleeting
Unless accounted is the mouth’s quick greeting
In the spur of this moment’s awkward meeting
Of hearts where only one unhappily conceding
Can grasp the horror in the way you’re treating
A soul which is desperately, frantically pleading.
My hands over my mouth can’t stop the shout
“Please don’t leave” burning, tearing, ripping out.
But the shout is silent compared to my whisper
“You’re all I have now; I’m dying without her.”
Tears roll down your face; you hear only my yell.
My whisper drifts lazily downward never to tell
Of my treachery; of the ways I take use of you
To hide my loneliness; irises fool what’s true.
They say the eyes are the window to the soul,
Did they ever realize they cover an empty hole?
A blaze of color can convince that love is sure
Even when I’d give up forever just to have her.
