How can I make you understand

Tie your heart around mine so you can feel

You don't want to sense how capable I am

If I don't meet your standards, I'm unworthy



It makes me sad and angry

That achievement has been defined

In such a way, that I can only envy

And am shot; left behind



I don't function like the rest seem to do

I am not a puppet tied with string

I swirl and tangle, fall and dangle

But that is how I've always been



I'm a person of extremes

But I like things to stay the same

As long as they don't urge me to scream

Not everything needs change



You're stubborn, greedy and like a fish

On the dry, you demand change

The world cringes, bows to your wish

And floods you with rain



But out in the sun, where they may die

They lie still, although unsatisfied

Waiting for the tide; the water to abide

They leave their fate to be decided



Don't mistake me for one of those

I might be waiting in the sun

But I flap my fins, and am lost in ideas

Time is unforgiving, and tangles me in momentum



I'm learning to get caught by birds

And have them drop me in the sea

I'm figuring out how to dig with my fins

Carve water-filled veins in Earth's skin



I am going to get where you are going

And I am going to do it in my own way

I might loose your respect, I might look stupid

But for once, allow me to keep my own pace



If you let me be in peace

You might be surprised by what I can produce

You dealt yourself a hand full of aces

...I might still win the game with two's.
