The journey of life, from man to plant.
As the sun begins to set upon the dark hill rising,
my eyes peer left to right, their surroundings summarizing,
a forest of green, oak and shadow,
and a cobblestone path that leads somewhere I cannot know.

I can hear whispers floating on the wind,
of those with pure hearts and those who have sinned,
my head tells me I must turn back,
but onward my feet march, they must follow the track.

Above my soul trees arms entwine,
creating an arch so beautiful, unique and divine,
and as the minutes pass and the pains of yesteryear drift away,
on I wander lost through these woods on this fine autumn day.

The path reaches further through flowers in full bloom,
the sun fades away giving its passage to the moon,
and as my limbs grow weary from their mysterious adventure,
the path breaks into a clearing, seemingly the end of my venture.

Upon the last cobblestone stands a figure in white,
her voice sounds dreamy as she welcomes me as her face fills with delight,
kindly she offers me a pillow and gently takes me by the hand,
ever so kindly leading me to a soft patch of land.

Here I lay my old body down as my new friend waves goodbye,
my lips part in thank you, but I am too weary to reply,
question my mind does not the pillow beneath my head,
as I settle down into my forest bed.

It is only as my eyes close that my mind begins to realize,
that in the morning my body shall not rise,
and as the image of the angel of passing imprints in my fading memories,
the last breath of this life is caught in the trees.

I am surprised to find that my soul lives on,
despite the fact my human form is now gone,
my flesh has left, blown away on the wind,
leaving behind just a seed from which a new life will begin.

The rains flow from clouds above,
raindrops caress me with feelings of love,
my roots begin to spread taking hold in the ground,
and my branches reach for the heavens with strength newly found.

As the years roll on by I grow to stand tall,
joining my brothers in the blossom of spring and the autumn fall,
I reach on over with branches I now combine,
guarding your passing as my brothers did mine.
