A long, winding staircase
Leading to a place unknown;
Battered, ancient, but still breathing.
Soft sighs and hums, with each step
The staircase whispers words of wisdom
And comfort to a lonely stranger.
Overused and familiar, a stairway
Like no other leading to her dreams.
A pair of dainty feet meets carved stone,
Its gentle caress, like a long, lost lover.
Remembering the times walked through this very stairs.
First steps, they were young.
Unadulterated and free to taste
The sweetness of life’s innocence.
Winding up to the left, they were teenagers.
Passing notes and secret meetings,
Hindered only by watchful eyes upon their status.
Standing atop, eyes wide open,
They were adults, looking at the grand beauty
Of the stairway which witness their growth.
Free now, at long last,
To grow, to love, to walk their own path.
No rhyme scheme. No syllable pattern. Just free... Staircase used as a passage... and as a sign of growth and development.
