A villanelle I wrote this morning.
What being is this in the winter fair
That doth now break the virgin snow
Exposed on all sides by the chilling air?

Is it a faerie creature rare
That away as a vision now must go
Back to some distant loamy lair?

Or perhaps an angelic answered prayer
That flies above, dwells not below
With wing and harp and bonnie wear?

But nay is it a mortal there
Though by sight one would not know
Should one even for hours stare?

Beautiful creature, pale skin and dark hair
SUrrounded by vibrant but fragile glow
How do you the icy weather bear?

And then in an instant of Helos' bright glare
The maiden was once there but no
Vanished away by chilling air
And into memory she dost go
